Have any of you had the Driver's Side mirror re-silvered (or whatever they use now)?

Can these be redone? I noticed mine is showing it's age.

  • Paul Schuster (on the board here, as PAULLARGETYPE) sells repro mirrors that are real nice, for what I have to imagine is less than having a mirror repaired, as such. check him out, I got a pair to go on the car, one of these days.

Can the mirror be replaced? And would this be done at a glass shop of auto body shop?

Or can I disassemble the mirror and do it myself - meaning I do not need a professional to due to equipment or tools needed?
  • REgular glass shop can cut it the cheapest. Take the old one in and tell them it must be EXACT. If you've got a good mirror glass big enough I've had them cut one from stock I took to them both for cars and my house . I've done several car mirrors myself with no problems. Some are glued on and some are crimped around the edge. Really not hard at all. Bud

    FYI

I found 'Aquarium Tank Glue' in a tube at PetsMart for apprx $5 works real well to glue on replacement glass cut from a Glass Shop.

The glass can be replaced. A glass shop can provide the glass or you should be able to find what you need at a good parts store, especially if it the glass is round.

The glass is safely removed by taping it prior to carefully breaking and removing it.
  • Here's another address for resilvering : Reflected Image Box 307 Northford Ct. 06472. Phone 203 484 0760 email; services@reflectedimage.com. Good luck Ed.
  • Thank you everyone.

I will take it to the local glass shop and let them do all the work.

I felt I better check here first. Paul has been added to my copy of the Vendor List that was published here and in the WTN.
