a narrow block aluminum head, specifically for a 6 cylinder? I got one, not sure if it is a 232 or 262, just want to make sure....

I figure it is a 262, just thought I would ask if anyone had the number handy.

The casting number for a 262 narrow block aluminum head is 300006 B ALCOA. This number is off my '49 Commodore Six. The Hudson part numbers for narrow block aluminum heads are 305364 for the 232 and 305366 for the 262.
  • or for a quick id, narrow block 232 heads had "500" (in reference to model 500) cast in the spot you would be most accustomed to seeing 308, 262 or 232 cast into the wide block heads
  • Thanks guys! it is a 300006 ALCOA head, so it will work great on my 50.

I'm thinking about having it checked, and have a light cleanup cut done on the head, then I'm gonna probably put a polish on it, make it shine.

took a chance on it for $6.00 figured it was worth that for the aluminum alone.

    Ooohhh, aaahhh.....I like shiney.

That would be something you do not normally see in a Hudson with an OEM engine under the hood. A chomed thermostat housing would top that off nicely.

I've got an aluminum head for my 308, and was thinking of polishing it also- but what can you do to keep it from oxidizing and starting to look crummy?
  • I don't know... I need to figure out an easier way to polish...

I was figuring on smoothing the casting out, by had sanding, then working towards a polish...

I know they make hi temp clear coats, but I was just worried about getting it to shine...

    anyone ever polish one?
  • Friend bought aluminum head at the central region meet at Springfield IL a few years ago. had it polished at Dans polishing & chrome shop here in Tennessee. It was smooth and really looks good. A green and cream 52 hornet sedan. Has been to the last few national meets and to the Regional just past in Ohio. Still looks as good as the day I installed it.
