54 Hornet Sedan- What is this strap?
In the process of detailing the undercarriage of my car, I came across a metal strap about 6 inches long. It is bent at a slight angle and has rubber on one side and is bolted to the bottom of the frame next to the master cylinder. It had nothing attached to it. Any thoughts on what this could be for?
Thanks,
Doug

It is a guard to keep rocks and stuff from damageing the master cylinder boot0

Quote B.J. It's a guard to keep rocks and stuff....
Yep, That's it. These cars were once driven on a lot of dirt and gravel roads, hence the need (also to keep snow off boot). But sounds as though a good bit of rubber is missing from yours if it appears as a strip. Rubber stuck out several inches from the metal. Best to use rubber with fabric reinforcement in replacing. Don't know anyone who makes the piece. Will dig through stuff to see if i have a pattern. Walt-LA0 -
K-Gap has that rock guard/mud flap thingy for 48' thru 53', I would think that 54' would be the same.0

I don't see one in the July 2007 catalog. Online catalog is not up at present, but they may have added since 07. Don't see the transverse piece that fits ahead of the rear perimeter frame to hide the gas tank either. What's the K-Gap part number for the brake cylinder shield? Walt-LA0

I actually didn't see it in the catalog. I talked to Dany on the phone, he said that they have the mud flap thing that goes near the master cylinder. hmm I wonder if they over looked putting those in their catalog? I'll ask him.0

That sounds like it! Hudson Catalog identifies it as guard-cylinder, LHD 301692 - used through 7D series, if same part. Seems I've seen it referred to as a weather protector- for snow somewhere. No snow here in south LA, but what the heck, have got one on the Hornet. Walt-LA0
