Hudson cop car.....

Does anyone know the colors of the montana state patrol or great falls cop cars from 1951? I do believe the 51 hornet I picked up was origanally a cop car. The original colors were maroon on top and black on the bottom. There is a hole in the roof that could have been from the gumball machine. The A pillars both have holes in them for spot lights. The front bumper has holes in each side that I think where for other lights maybe? there is also a mount hole set on the drivers side rear bumper and a gromet and wire comming out of the rear of the car below the drivers tail light. That might have been a back up light though. Any info would be great. The research I have done has only gotten me the info that montana did use the hornet for there police cars. Thanks all!

I've seen photos of them but can't remember where, perhaps an old WTN?

When you say there was a hole in the roof where was it exactly?
  • oldhudsons is right. I remember way back in the seventies there was an article in the WTN about the colonel of the Montana State Highway Patrol writing to Hudson and praising them to the {big} skies about what great cars they were. The club librarian should have the article if no one else does. The drawback was that in those days all the WTNs were black and white photos. What a great find Chris!
  • Here is a website for Montana HWP ...

The following is the 1st car listed on the site... a 1936 HUDSON!
  • And a coupe too!

The article was a HMCC press release that was reprinted in the "Hornet’s Nest Newsletter July 1974". It can be found in the Southern California Chapter Newsletter April 2009 Issue at http://socalhet.org/newsletters/newsletter.htm

Looking at the pictures, it looks as if they were running '51 Super Six Broughms. Now that I think about it, the Ohio Turnpike State Patrol used '54 Hornet Special Broughms, but I've never been able to find any pictures of their fleet.

Hey.. thanks for all the input people! Aaron.. I know what your thinking... LOL. The holes I am looking at are about 1-1 1/2 ft behind the top of the glass... Not the hole that is in all the hornets those years. The paint is in a little better condition in a fairly round pattern around those holes too.....

Yeah... that is the article I found to verify that they did in fact use hornets in Montana. Anyone else from that era/area??

Thanks for the correction. One of my problems is looking too far into the future. BTW, Our next Western Regional Meet will be in April 2009 at Oakhurst, CA, the gateway to Yosemite. Should be a very scenic event.
