Hi Arkiejazz, and thanks. The car has factory overdrive and it works flawlessly. The white emblem actually lights up when the lights are on, I haven't seen a red one, just never paid any attention to that I guess. Thanks again, Richie.0 -
Hi Richie - They were all red at one time from '50-'54 I think K-Gap has replacement ones but not cheap so if you can find an original in good condition that's nice to have to. They set off the grill nicely. Cars from '47-'49 Had Black Hudson emblems with a white triangle that lit up. But they were sshaped slightly different.0

Thanks Aaron D, I think red would probably look good against the green. I'll keep my eyes open for one. Maybe e-bay might have one, I check that out. Richie.0 -
Aaron, what color are the 55's, mine is white but it could just be faded. It looks really good lit up.The other night I had to meet some deputies when we had a burglar alarm at the shop and I pulled up in the Hash, they all loved it. The only one who wasn't impressed was the skinny transvestite hooker they had sitting on the curb. I think it had crawled under the fence looking for something to steal. It was outside when we got there but no vehicle and nothing else on the street kind of looked suspicious. The deputies sure didn't expect me to respond in a 55 Hudson Hornet. They all noticed the lit up grill emblem.

That's a story for the histroy books Harry.
Yes now that I think about it yours is faded and used to be red too! But I'm not sure if it's the same shape as the grille emblems as on the step-downs. I assme that it is. Maybe someone can confirm this for us???0 -

Aaron D. IL wrote:You don't need AC as long as you're moving I found out you won't break a sweat. Also helps to have enough insulation on the floorboards under your feet. Those wing windows really work. I was doing 70 on my way to the Nashville National (remember how hot that was?!) and as long as I was on the highway...no sweat.0

I can relate to this. When we used to live in northern VA, having no AC in the Hornet really wasn't a factor. Now that we're back home in south Texas, the rules have been changed. We installed AC. I get a little flack from some about the change to such an original car, but most of those folks don't live down here. Driving the Hudson is truly a blast, but riding around in a hot car(i.e., no AC and no insulation) for any trip longer than down to the local gas station is plain miserable here in the summer, regardless of what you drive. Our temps don't reach 113, but 100-degree days are usually common from June through September.0
