For that asking price I would think the car should have been treated to a new interior instead of the quick fixes shown in the pictures, along with rechromed bumpers and other bright work. If my memory serves, I beleive the car was a dark color when the article was written for Special Interest Autos (probably Pasture Green).

  • Maybe the high gas prices have elevated the value of our Jets. I wasn't there, but I understand Carroll Kerchner's Super Jet (that was also featured in Special Interest Autos) went for $8800 at auction.

    Good for us Jet owners....

Well, price might be a tad steep - but suppose you had one that needed restoration. You figure $20k or so to steep to restore one to high.

I swear, some of you guys would complain if they hung you with a new rope and charged you a nickle for the priviledge. If I had the money, I'd buy it for the price - it would be a driver for me and not need to be "over" restored.

So, the moral of the story is... get your Jet featured in an article and it will almost double in value! LOL Sounds good to me!

I think the door panels are acceptable, but the lines of the original uholstery are obvious under the seat cover.

I have a copy of the article in pdf that I will e-mail to you guys. It's in black and white, but still a good read.

I will add one more opinon, I agree, at least twice that amount if you want to restore one, plus buy the car originally. I have a very nice 54 Jet Liner two door, twin h, hydro, cont kit, red, white top, correct red and white interior. Solid rust free car. Restored a few years ago. It is for sale for $15,000. With today's prices, for the condition it is in, I think it is fair. Ebay may determine that for sure in the near future. Call me crazy, I don't mind. Ed
  • I don't think the jet in Mass is too bad. maybe 8500 or 9000. The bumpers look powder coated, not chromed. I would think that shows some $$$ savings short cuts may have been taken. But all in all, it's a 2 door jet, I would just put a 308 in it anyway, and probably an edmunds 2 x 2, and a hotter cam... cause some trouble...

I was at the Kirchner auction. I thought that the jet there was gonna bring $7200. I was surprised, it was a nice car, seemed like a fair deal for the money. At some point, you got to determine what kind of cost is involved with bringing a car to the level you want to have it at. Sometimes the money spent on the front end is better spent than on the middle or back end of the deal. (read... restoration costs...)

That Jet's on eBay now! It's described as having 80,000 ORIGINAL miles on its 308. So, I'm thinking he doesn't know the history of the car like he should. My guess is that he's owned it long enough to make a few minor changes and is flipping it. (I wish I could say minor improvements, but the blue carpet is rather horrific in my opinion.)

As far as restoration costs, I know I'll have spent more than what I could sell it for. However, I plan on owning it a long time and it's a documented restoration, so why not make the investment?
  • Well, that's kinda disappointing that it doesn't actually have a 308 in it. I hope whoever buys it realizes that has the 202 in it. It does seem to be a sharp little car though. Might be a good one for my Uncle Bill.....

  • ah the joy of photographs. from the craigslist ad it could well of been a 308 but the ebay listing shows clearly it is not

it will be interesting to see the misrepresentation case for that one
  • As mentioned, I sent an e-mail to the address listed in the Craig's List ad.

Today I got a message telling me that if I am serious about the car, any offers over $6K will be considered.

I do not have that much spare cash to spend.

Where are the body side moldings on the front fender and door?

    53jetman
  • Wow, look at the front crossmember...

there's an engine that has a lil bit of oil leak... and Antifreeze... note the green drops...

    hmmm...

cool car though, I would take the fender skirts off, tub it, and make it a 308 car.

The Hudson factory made around 5 Hornet Jets. There is an article on them in an old '70's WTN.
