I Haven't Been On This For A Long Time, But Always Enjoyed It.

We're Coming From Arizona And Driving Our '50 Super 6 Club Coupe. We Left Phoenix, Az May 31st And Cavravanned To Go To San Jose Calif (with Two Of Our Gcc Chapter Hudson Friends.), For The Western Regional Meet And Then To San Franciso And On To Glenwood Iowa To Play With Grandkids Until @ July 13th. After That We'll Head On To Marlborough For The Nationals, Site Seeing On The Way And Will Hit The Ne States Before Getting To The Nationals . We Still Have A Six Volt System And Old Fashioned Maps To Get Us To Where We Go! We May Cheat Some And Use The Old Fashioned Map Quest To Find Our Way Into The Hotel. Anyone Have "flares" To Shoot Off As We Come To Town To Find Our Way? Lol

We'll Be Going Coast To Coast And Almost Back By The Time We Get Back To Arizona And Will Have Added @8,000 + Miles To "nellie's" Odometer And Will Have Been In 45 Of The 48 Sates In 3 Years. This Is Assuming That Neallie Holds Together, We Hold Together And Our Pocket Book Holds Up! We Need To Check Gas Prices On Our Route To Find The Cheapeast Ones! What's The Price Of Gas @ The Nationals Area?

We Are Really Lokking Forward To The Nationals!!!

Harry, better to buy your banquet tickets in advance - if past Nationals are any indication the banquet WILL be sold out by the time the fun starts - if they aren't sold out already.

I bought mine when I reserved my room - back last August!!!!!!!

Ok, troops - here's the straight scoop from the head poops on rooms.

The last day for booking rooms at the negotiated > rate was June 21st. Folks may be able to get a room @ the host hotel however it will be up to the hotel what rate to charge.

A few folks have extra rooms held - just in case.

If someone is serious about attending (has or plans to register) and the hotel won't honor the rate, have them get a hold of me as I know a few folks

have reserved extra rooms and may be willing to giveone up.

For more infor contact Jim Digiorgia at digirogio@charter.net

And another note for you rental car people - if you go with Avis, not only can you get a discount, but I think you can drop the car off at the hotel. When you leave you can rent again to get back to the airport.

Check out the Avis info on the first page of the National web site @ www.freewebs.com/neceditor05 .

Here's a followup on rooms at the National: The hotel has 430 rooms and there will be rooms available, but at the prevailing rates. There's still rooms. HET has used up about 320-340.

So, you can still get a room, but it'll be more expensive. I'm not sure what the prevailing rate is.

    Hudsonly,

  • if i decide to go i will haul my essex up on the trailer, is there parking for trailers at the hotel? if we go it will probably only be one night stay, which night would be best?
  • hudsontech

There should be plenty of room for trailer parking at the hotel. I think there's something like 1300 parking places at the hotel.

One night stand, umm. Ok, if you want to attend the business meeting then come as early Friday as you can, stay overnight and the business meeting is 9-11 on Saturday. If you don't want to attend the business meeting then Thursday with an overnight into Friday would be good days.

My experience is that cars start arriving on Monday (if there's a regional attached) with a few coming in. Tuesday more arrive - the biggest day seems to be Wed with most coming in then. Thursday is usually pretty close to Wed for arriving cars. By Friday it's back down to trickle.

Sat seems to be the start of the outbound exodus - with the marjority leaving early Sunday morning. I remember at the Waterbury, CT, national a few years back it was advertized locally as being thru Sunday. A lot of local area folks came over Sunday morning to find the parking lot nearly empty.

In any event book your room early - tho I may have an extra bed. I'm not sure at the moment. Don't want to discourage you but if you get a room now, you'll probably pay the going rate which is $130 according to the web site. (See my earlier post on rooms).

Thank you for the update, Tom.

From the little time I had in the early planning stages, before I relocated to Memphis, I got the impression that this hotel had a pretty good staff to work with. Or maybe it's just that Carl and Jim turned on the famous NEC charm!!! :)

Yeah, With the club discount they want over $ 200 for one day car rental from Providence airport to Marlborough, one way. Then when you want to go back to the airport from Marlborough, another over $200 fee ! Almost as much as the cross country flight ! Think we will try Hertz.

    Total trip cost $1,001.53 USD
  • I reserved a Pontiac G6 car from Avis for four days, Wednesday - Saturday, pick up and drop off at Providence airport, for $159.39. I used the Hudson web site that they set up that was in the WTN.

My computer will click on the H.E.T. site, but not the Avis site they provide. Called Avis at the number provided, and used the code number provided, and that's the price they gave me.

    Thanks, Ron

Just got on the Avis site with Ron's help. Price with code #, is $375 plus for 5 days with the same Pontaic G6. Opps, used wrong code#, now its $175 with the right one , but with hidden fees and taxes the total is around $100 more! Rent a wreck is $226.84 for 5 days, with 100 miles max a day, on a mid size car 1999 vintage to 2003. They are 10 miles from the airport, and you probally have to hire a cab to get there at $45+. Taxes and hidden fees really pad the prices on all rental cars in Rhode Island!

I called Best Western this morning to confirm my reservation - got a snippy young lady who reminded me in rather brusqe terms I should have mentioned the Hudson Club when I made my original reservation back last August.

When I checked the reservation price she told me it was $159 and change a nite. Whoa, here. Then I told her I had made my reservation and said it was for the Hudson Convention - that's when she got snippy.

Now here's the deal. When I made my reservation I made it from 23-27 July - according to her the reservation card said 21-27. That sounds to me like it confirms that I did say it was for the Hudson Group.

Anyway, she's supposed to change it to 22-27th, since I'm going go be coming in a day early. If you are in the lobby on the 22nd and see a mad man having at the desk with an axe you'll know that she didn't change it to the HET rate. :D

So it is always a good (great??) idea to confirm your reservations at LEAST two weeks in advance - 3 weeks would be better.

I never checked on flight and car rental with Orbitz to Rhode Island thought Boston was closer looking at the map. Did you have a reason for this that I did not consider ? Hope all works out good for you. Ron

Can't get a direct flight from Reno to Boston. Southwest airlines does not fly to Boston at all. Nearest place to Boston they fly is Providence RI. $1525 for 3 people is the best rate I could find. From L.A. area, direct flights to Boston on other airlines are common. Oh, found another "hidden"fee from Avis! They will charge you the going rate for gas in your tank, which will be filled when you pick up your vehicle. They do not give you any credit for gas in the vehicle's tank when you return it. I'll siphon it out and fill a Hudson up with it, than give it to them for free! I'll return the tank empty!

Alex, read the reviews on this hotel at tripadvisor.com. Read beyond the first review. Seems other people had problems with the front desk also.
