Good evening fellow Hudsonites, I am putting the origional style fuel pump back on my '37 Terraplane, question, How mwny gaskets between the pump and the block? Also any special way to install the pump, last time there was a lot of presure on the arm as I installrd it.The Arm rests between the cam and the block, very narrow place right. Thanks in advance. Were your old gaskets reuseable? When I replaced my pump, I reused the ones that were on the car without problems, but I don't recall how many there are.
There is quite a bit of pressure on the arm as you install it, correct. My pump swap took a total of ten minutes, and she was ready to go again!0 -
Gasket thickness is 5 layers .250 thick plus a metal baffle between and do not forget the two fiber sleeves for the mounting bolts . Chuck G.0

What is the purpose of the fiber sleeves other than alining the fuel pump
to the block. duncan0 -
duncan, The intended puprose was to insolate the bolts from the pump. The thinking was that the bolts would act as a heat sink causing heat to be transferred from the block through the bolts and onto the fuel pump with a potential for vapor locking the pump. That was the theory anyway. Then they routed the fuel line past the fuel pump to just above the manifolds. No heat there........0

You can relieve some of the resistance by turning the engine over...when the fuel pump cam is pushing the pump arm fully, the resistance to install the pump is at the greatest level...turn the engine over, and find the place where the pump cam is at its lowest, and you will have the lowest resistance when installing.0
