Worlds longest taxi fare in a Hudson...1930
Sounds interesting enough for you? please read on. Well it is a true story and is in the process of being recreated by the decendents of taxi driver Charlie Heard. I can keep going on here but this will take me hours to write. So here I will post a link of a news thread via internet. The crew will be in Brisbane tomorrow (Saturday in Australia) and I will be catching up with them so I can do a story on them for the two Hudson AMC club magazines I do in Australia. Here is the link.

It's quicker to look at the video link rather then reading the interview as shown.

Just finished watching those videos. That's quite a remarkable story! I guess it also shows how well made Hudson products were to make the trip. Sounds like they had relatively few breakdowns. Did the Australian Hudson clubs get actively involved in the recreation? Does anyone there have an exact same model of that 1930 Hudson Touring?0

What an incredible story ... This should be put in the WTN. They chose the right person and the right car. Virtually no break downs and only one flat! Charlie was amazing. Modern day motoring cannot begin to replicate the trip.0

Answering that question of Hudson clubs in Australia being actively involved in the recreation of the taxi about was very little because it just came out of the blue. The first many of us heard out was when they were about to start the trip. The 29 Essex being used was a former club members car from South West of Sydney. It was not until this report was shown on TV that we began to know about this journey. The Victorian Hudson guys knew nothing about it. One of our members in QLD new very early in the piece so we made plans to travel with them from Toowoomba to Brisbane, about two hours travel. Parts were supplied to them for free as they were needed.
In 2 hours time from now I will be catching up with them at The Breakfast Creek Hotel in Brisbane. The party are taking each day as it comes so it is still unknown when they will make it to Sydney....I guess in a weeks time. In the meantime I will be organising the Sydney Hudson guys to catch up with them.
This is a truely remarkable event and should not be missed by anyone. I will be taking a few photos today and post them here tonight. The whole journey is being documented by film so we can see in the future soon. Brisbane's Channel 7 will be their today with other journalist so I guess it may be on TV tonight.0 -
Without a doubt the Hudson adventure of a lifetime... thank you so very much for sharing this with us. Boy, am I jealous... guess I will dust off my ideas about touring again. Hope all you folk down under get to catchup and witness the adventure Charlie's Grandkids are enjoying.

Of course we should really put this in context - the car used was an ESSEX.0

Hi all, just got back from the Breakfast Creek Hotel and meeting the five grand children of Charlie Heard. The day went well with about a dozen club members in attendence for lunch. I had a good chat to Steve and Bob Heard whilst there. They have had certainly enjoyed them selves over the past month recreating this journey in their 29 Essex. I will be putting a story together along with Spencer Yarrow and others to put forward to WTN in the coming months once the journey is finished. The Heards are pridicting in 3 weeks that they will be arriving home in Victoria.0

G'Day Steve,
I did send Sam Jackson a copy of that article a month or so ago, I hope it gets reprinted for all to see.

Thanks Les, do you know if Sam needs other pictures etc? I now have the contact numbers of the family. Very nice people, they will fit nicely into the Hudson community.0

Would not hurt to send them to him Steve.0

From the photos I have seen the original vehicle used in 1930 appears to be a 1926 Hudson Tourer (Phaeton)0

Welcome aboard Spencer. It was a great day meeting the Heard's yesterday for lunch. Good work mate.0

just had a call from Steve Heard they made it home on sat.9th. after 10530 km only troubles being 1 flat tyre [same as their grandfather] points closing up, brake adj. steering adj. & a split rim not a bad effort after seeing where they have been. The reason they chose an ESSEX & not a HUDSON they could only find an open ESSEX. they were offered a closed HUDSON but wanted to do it in an open one like their grandfather. Keep you all posted as more info comes to hand.0
