Hey Fellow Hudsonites,

Just go back from a day at the Hudson Meet in Marlborough, MA. Really had a hodge-podge of weather. Everything from light rain to a severe thunder storm to a tornado warning in the area. Glad it never touched down anywhere near the Hudson Meet. Anyway, thought that I would share some picture of the various cars there. Everything from Brass to Hash. I felt like I was in heaven. There was even the Hudson Durham Limo. One of three known to exist. I'll be going back over the weekend to bask in Hudson Heaven.:

    Both those two-tone stepdown converts have a stately grace to them. Very pretty.

    I am wondering what color the 51 Hornet Coupe is? Is that a tone of brown or is it Texas Tan?

    Great meet, lots of older cars you would never see on the west coast ! Great Italian food here! Thick forests are all around, and lots of history. Well worth the money spent!

    Saturday - beautiful day. Business meeting was great, with a great video presentation by Dan McNichols from Boston showing clips from his 4 trips across the U S with Per Christiansen (Per went along as Dan's mechanic and co-driver.

    Then we had another video presentation showing points of interest and the hotel in Spokane, host to the 2010 national - looks like beautiful country out there.

    I finally got my "pins" caught up - got my 20 and 30 year pins - when I hit 20 years in the club we got a Hudson tool check, a great momento. Later they went to pins. Next year I'm eligible for my 40 year pin, gheeese!!!

    got home an hour ago. had a great time. found some N.O.S HORNET ROCKETS FOR MY 52 COUPE, BETTER THAN THE REPLATED ONES ON NOW. WILL CHANG THEM OUT WHEN THE SHIPMENT ARRIVES HERE IN SO CAL. THE LITTLE HUDSON METRO WON THE ALBRIGHT AWARD DRAWING AT THE BANQUET AND THE OWNER DONATED 500. BACK TO THE AWARD PROGRAM WHICH IS ALIVE AND HEALLTHY EVEN WITH OUR LOW INTEREST NOW. GREAT PLANS FOR THE 100TH IN DETROIT (PONTIAC) NEXT YEAR SEE YOU ALL THER, THE LORD WILLING BILL ALBRIGHT

    Guys, was that boattail at the Nats a "made" car by Hudson, or was it a creation of a current or previous owner? I had thought Hudson did not build a boattail car???

    The guy that owns it has the yellow t-shirt and a beard. I think he said it is a Hudson built car. Ron

    Hudson reputedly made 5 Speedabouts (Boattails) in 1929 used as show cars by the company. Three survive currently. (Info from the HET NZ magazine "The NZ Triangle" issue 259 July/August 2008):):)

    The photo shows an Essex Speedabout (prob '27). Essex made these for a few years prior to then.. I have photos of 2 US & 1 NZ if interested. The one in the photo looks like Tom Brintnall's.

    That is Tom Brintnall in the picture, and that is his car. Tom is president of the hosting New England Chapter.

    MANY THANKS TO THE PEOPLE WHO RAN THE MEET WE HAD A GREAT TIME we just got in 12 hours 600 + miles 1 way well worth the times spent behind the wheel and the $'s in gas we took the 34 hudson sedan had a great time SOLD SOME PARTS FOUND SOME PARTS saw lots of old friends and met some new ones too congrats to John Sherlock new eastern region director some really nice cars (139)we spent a week at the national with son and grand kids all HUDSONING !!! WE CAN'T WAIT TO NEXT YEAR IN PONTIAC MI.

    We just made it home after being there Sunday to Sunday. It was still too short! Great meet, THANK YOU to ALL who were involved.

    Had a great week at the National. I'm only about 1 1/2 hours away so we drove my '49 Brougham. I had my wife and my 2 sons and thier girl friends there. My brother and some of his family also came. Got to visit with all my wonderfull Hudson friends and make new ones.



    Next year in Michigan my wife now wants me to drive out in our '49 Sedan. My sons already are planning on coming and my daughter wants me to buy her a Jet.

    John Fromm has that Essex with Tom Brintnall in his Auburn 2007 National meet video. The 2008 National meet video will have some of the rarest Hudson products ever seen at a National meet ! All of John's videos are a work of art and highly recomended.

    Look like there are some rare Hudson products hiding around the east coast. Older part of the country. hehe

    Vintage cars are in higher numbers on the east cost for two basic reasons. Cross continent auto travel was not common until the advent of improved roads in the 50s. (Thank IKE). Populations dictated the sales of cars and the highest populations were in the Eastern US up until the mid 50s. Owners of the eastern classic cars have historically passed these cars among a select group of buyers and sellers. The advent of the auctions and INTERNET based communications have now brought these cars to the attention of a wider audience. Many of the older HET vehicles scattered around the US find thier origins in east coast collections.

    The boat tail was made by Hudson. The one at the show was a nice original. There are a few restored ones around but they are few and far between. By the way, Perry Spring II was at the show and had the back boat tail top section (and a few other parts) that he had hammered and welded. I was very impressed with his work. He is a true artist, so if anyone wanted a boat tail, Perry can build them one. If you have most the parts of a early car, this would be a great way to go.

    the rarest of them all is the '31 Hudson boattail as that is the only year that body style put on a Hudson chassis.

    Essex BTs on the other hand were made for several years beginning in '27 & into '31.

    In 1931 there were 2 Boattails available in both Hudson & Essex. The first Boattail was in 1927 Essex in 2 series(early & late year production) and was built by Hudson. The second BT was in 29 & the body was built by Biddle & Smart(very limited production). So BT's were 27,29 & 31 only. This info is readily available in the book " The History of Hudson" by Don Butler.

    Thanks for the nice words. It was nice to meet you in person too. I was a long way from home and wanted to make something that would show a lot of shape to go along with the floor pans that have very little shape. My idea was to show people that I could make whatever it was they needed for their project. Funny thing though, many people, not all, but some just kind of walked by and said "Oh, a boat tail top. Don't need one of those." and kept on walking. They missed the whole point. But, I think most people who stopped by understood what I was trying to do. I probably should of made a sculpture or made more of an effort to stop people and talk to them instead of letting them just walk on by. But, at any rate, I'm glad you and a few others did take a minute and stop in and see the photo album and talk for a bit.:) Thanks!
