Essex Emblems & Radiator for I.D.
I've created a quick webpage that has images some of the Essex emblems and radiator shells I've been able to find. While I think I've got them identified correctly, I'd appreciate some error checking from the club. If you have any images I'm missing, I'd be appreciative. Gary Lynch helped me a great deal in filling out missing information and his car is the '29 radiator shown.
The goal is to have one page where all the emblems and grill shells are shown so there will be a single sheet of paper that will let you identify what you're looking at. Eventually it can expand but this would be a start.
Thanks for your help in advance.

David,
I have a collection of Essex and Hudson badges, and I have noticed the following:
1919-1926: There several varieties of these (some have differences in their borders). The one pictured on your site is normally seen. Its "Detroit USA" appears to be white, and the lettering small. My example of the small "Detroit USA" has copper lettering. Another variety has "Detroit USA" in much larger copper lettering.
1927: white with copper lettering, no USA at bottom, but it would not be surprising if examples were found with "USA" on them.
1928: The one on your site appears to be a restored example, so the color does not seem to be accurate. Perhaps it is just the photo. Yours is a 1928, however. Note the "USA" at the bottom. The badge you have listed as unknown is 1928 as well; note there is no "USA" on this one. Copper with white lettering. The Aussies have a beautiful variety on some of their cars. It has a profile of Icarus (the 1928 hood ornament) superimposed upon the badge.
1929: correct as pictured on your site. Nickel plating on frame. Black with white lettering edged in nickel or in copper, in some cases.
1930: Art deco frame with nickel plating. Black with white lettering edged in nickel.
1931: I am told that this is the same as the 1930, but I cannot attest to it. I believe it to be hexagonal and not square, however.
1932: Beautiful red with white lettering edged in nickel, as is the outer edge of the badge. Although hexagonal, the center of the badge is "peaked" to conform to the grille shape on the 32's.
Variations in these badges appear to have happened due to different companies producing their version of the same thing. DK0 -

This is the best one Hudson made IMHO0 -
Looks like they used the Ivy leaves that were on the Hudson HQ building the "Ivy Tower" in Detroit. Incorporated it into the emblem. Inless it was meant to be oilve branches. haha0

Thank You.
I'll run with this and will update the site as I get more information. Any photos you'd be willing to share would be appreciated.

You mention the edging is in Nickel but every one I've seen has been chrome.
Seems the Essex has Chrome on the exterior and Nickel on the interior.
