Hi is anyone going to the Pomona swap meet and car show in august?

Comments

  • I have a mid sixties brand X car I need to sell, so I will probably be there. The exposure to buyers is the best in the area. Hopefully the temp. will be less than 100 degrees.

VictorZ is there most of the time selling his wares.

    Are you coming down?

  • Yes we are going to be vacationing down there the last 2 weeks in August. Myself, wife ,son and daughter. I'm hoping to see Bill A and go to the swap meet if time permits. I've never been to the Pomona swap meet before but I understand its pretty big.

What date are you talking about for Pomona? I have lived in SoCal most of my life and I have never been to it. I understand that there usually isn't much there in the way of old (pre-war) stuff and not much Hudson and that it is mammoth to walk around. However, I am interested in checking it out some time.
  • Sunday, August 24th.

It is huge.... but you are right, Richard, not much Hudson stuff. I usually don't make it through the entire swap meet, but I rarely spend more than 4 - 4 1/2 hours there.

Because I am taking a car to sale, I will probably get there around 4am, and hope to leave by 2pm. Because of the size of the meet, and the fact that there isn't much shade, I would reccomend getting there as early as posible.

As the date approaches, let me know if you are going, I would love to meet you.

Very true, it is Huge and lots of cars in the show lot for sale. The times that I have gone I haven't found much Hudson stuff, but lots to look at. Good luck and have fun with your search.
  • pm me 52 and give me your cell number and I'll call you if I make it there. I'm hoping to see some of the swap meet and then go to Bill A's. or the other way round, who knows. If I were alone my time would be more under my control but with a wife and a 17 year old daughter and a 20 year old son...........plus I have a bad knee...i've been thinking about getting one of those folding electric scooters for places where you have to walk long distances.

It has been over a decade since I was at the Pomona Swap meet. When I lived in California my friend and I were there every meet of the year. We bought and sold cars so had a a number of spots together. Due to the size of the meet we usually took a golf cart. If you have a preexisting medical concern you should definately plan for assisted travel. The grounds are paved and that adds to the heavy duty impact on your legs, knees and hips.

In my younger days... Hersey, San Diego, Pomona, Pate... all have to do swaps every year. Now.. pretty much too much for the ole body... have a good time ... but as Lance and others said... it is huge and it will be HOT... make the event fun by taking the alternative transport and plenty of water.

    Cheers
  • I was there just last month and everything said so far is true. It is huge, really huge. If you like cars, this is Nirvana. Finding a Hudson part would be like finding a needle in a haystack. It is a great place to sell a car, tons of desireable cars in the show lot and some great deals. The show lot is worth it alone. Enjoy!

Hey Victor...I did not know this. You will see me there sometime and I will take you up on your offer (chair & drink). I have not been there in about 10 years but I have found some Hudson stuff from the older cars like mine. Ron

Yes, I was at the last one and I always drive a Hudson. Last time it was the 46 pickup and the time before that the 37 Hudson 8. Maybe this time i will drive the 53 Hornet. There is no way to get through the swap meet and the car show in one day. One or the other not both. at the last meet I got a 52 grill for $10, although it was a little dented. I also saw (and should have purchased) the dual bar bumper gard for the 37. I did not think it was correct until I went home and looked at the one I have. I did see Vic there and picked up some window channel for the pickup. you can find Hudson parts there but it is real tough. Most of the time the stuff is not worth what they want. But every now and then you find something.

  • It's too bad they don't come out with a way to list who has what parts in what spaces. Not the little stuff, just big catagories. Be nice to type in "Hudson" or "Packard", etc on their web site and see what vendor space has been listed as having these. I would think Pomona would be well served in doing this, atleast looking at a similar service. It should be welcoming the electronic age.
  • Sad news guys, my wife just had her eye operated on and she's not allowed to fly or drive over mountains for at least 8 weeks, my trip will have to go on hold for now.

I'm sorry to hear that Jim. I hope she will be fine, besides, that will put you out here in October. If we can keep the fire and winds at a minimum, we have great weather around that time! Plus, I'm sure Bill A. will still have some parts left. Maybe we'll see you then.

The swapmeet is this Sunday, so I thought I would raise the question again.

Jim, I hope your wife is doing ok. Maybe we'll see you at the next swapmmeet.

I didn't get my brand X ready to sell, so I will drive my Hornet out (not for sale.... well, it could be :D). I will probably fall in line to get in around 5am and plan on being there until around noon. I hope to see some of you there!

Yep, I will be there with my freshly restored 53 Hornet. I am going with another friend to look at the cars. So if you are looking at the car show I park in the older than 58 section near the corvettes toward the stands. so at least there will be one Hudson there.
