does anyone know the exact year or model differences for the 1940 to 1947 hudson headlamp trim rings. trying to get a pair for my 41 pickup, bought three seperate ones on ebay, all three different. try to describe in order from oldest to newest. early one has no triangle on bottom outsde, extra releif on top outsde, no inside screw boss reinforcements, has early hallamp logo on inside bottom. second one is same, only now has the triangle on outside bottom, has numder4763 and J11 on inside. third one has no top relief on outside, smooth instead. has triangle on outside, has reinforcements to inside screw bosses. has number 206499, some small logo, number 2, then 4763 on inside. anyone want to nail these down to year and models??

I Believe The One Without The Triangle And With The Extra Rib On The Top Is A '40. I Have Also Seen Some Without The Triangle And No Rib On Top, I Think These Would Have Been An Aftermarket Item From Western Auto Etc.0

These are the same 1942 thru 1947 as shown above. Have got a 1942 and have recently sold a 1947 both had the same rings as you guys call them.0

1941 to 1947 all used the same ring on truck. 1942 big cars did not have same bottom and 1940 was different.0 -
Here's the photos of my '41 Traveler trim [note the number "4763 J11"]:0

thats the same one that came on my 41 pickup (only had one), but is rotted on bottom, don't think it will rechrome. has same numbers and lack of screw boss reinforcements. definatly makes 41 only year ring. parts book lists 40 and 41 same, changing part numbers in early 42 on non-commodores. the one you show has the extra rib on top. typical for world war 2 dies to wear out, getting repolished and reused, resulting in the top rib dissappearing and becoming smooth in 1946-47 hudsons. so, in an educated view, 1940 only, 1941-42 only, than 1946-47 having the third type of trim ring with smooth top. sorry, I spent too many years in the antique motorcycle association, where every nut and bolt has to be correct, most parts slightly changing from year to year!! would not matter here but an obvious difference between the 1941's and the 1946/47 ones when mounted on car.0

Just been down looking at a few rings I have here.
Some have 4763 only others have 4763 J a couple of the 4763 J also have the word "lead" on the inner part of the ring, these are consideably heavier than the ones not marked LEAD. Apart from a difference on the inner part near the mounting stud which a couple of them have an extra couple of knobs either side of the mounting hole I can not see any difference in any of them from front on.
I may over the next couple of days remove one from our very origional 1942 Brougham and have a look at the inner section of those.0
