I just wanted to say how much I enjoyed the 2-part series on the Peking to Paris articles in the 2 latest WTN issues. Great work Sam. What an interesting trip and just goes to show what a determined person can do. Again, thanks, and keep up the great work, I really look forward to every issue, yes, even a hot rodder like myself! LOL

  • As a postscript to the article. If it interests anyone, the history on the Essex is that it was originally from Altonna, Pa. It went to Norfolk, Va. where someone apparently started a restoration. It then went to Bill Jennings in Farmville, Va.for about 20 years. I purchased for Andrew Fulton as a basket case and then put it together for him as a original driver.THEN he came up with the rally, I thought he was NUTS, but he proved me wrong. The car was shipped to him in England where he finished the work as I was moving to Iowa and could not complete the task. Myself I think Andrew Did an absolutly bang up job and am extremly proud of him for doing it in a 88 year old car. There is acually a lot more to the story, but this is a synopsis of it. One last comment is Why do some people have to nitpick about something when they don't know the whole story? I.E. The WTN letter. Tom Bowler in Wonderfull Iowa.
  • Tom, in the article Andrew says he grew up in Western PA. Do you know what town? Just curious...
  • That trip took some real GUTS. Folks I know thought I was crazy to drive my Jet 20 hours round trip to San Jose this past spring, but that's nothin when compared to driving an Essex through Mongolia (and China, Russia, etc.)! My hat's off to Mr. Fulton!!!
  • He is from APPOLO Pa. His family still lives there.

Why should it be crazy, they're the best road cars of their era....better than most of their contemporaries.

I was thrilled to be able to run the that story and really appreciate Tom Fowler's help. The key was getting the photos...I just can't run eight pages of solid type. Thanks to Tom and Andrew, Mary Ann got enuff material to put together the presentation you saw in the final iteration. :o
  • Andrew worked long and hard to do this. I am just glad you all appreciate his efforts. Sam, You and your wife did a bang up job also, One of the best I have seen after 43 years in the HET.
