'37 Terraplane clutch time

:DTook the "plane for a short spin last week and the clutch slipped badly. Adjusted the clutch this week and went for a short drive after dark, it was a short drive, can not see anything with the lights. Took the "plane for a longer ride today to get it washed, about twelve miles round trip. The clutch worked a little better but not much, it slips. Now I am going to change it, however I am unsure if the disc is 9" or 10". Some one has undoubtedly changed the cluch somewhere along the line and I do not know what they put in it.Any special tricks to removing and replacing the clutch on the Terraplane or is it similar to the step down which I have changed a few. Wish me luck. Thanks, Arnie

I'd flush it out and refill with fluid before I changed it. When I got my 36T it slipped but after changing the fluid, it hasn't slipped since..going on 8 years now.
If you have to change it, it'll be a 9 inch and it's the same deal as the stepdown's except you probably have 3 drive dogs on the flywheel driving the pressure plate. Mark it so you can get it back together the same way as it was balanced this way.0 -
Thanks Uncle Josh, I will change the clutch fluid first. That is a lot easier than pulling the transmission with my sore back. My '37 Terraplane does deive nice and the ride is good other than the clutch problem. Next, I have to put turn signals on the car and find 6 volt halogen headlight bulbs. Thanks for the info. Arnie0

Arnie, varify that the clutch has the proper amount of free play. Changing the fluid is always recommended. If this does not do it,it should be a 9" and it will only go on one way, lining the cover up with the dowel pins and driving lugs. I think these are one of the easiest clutch to change. The transmission is smaller and the pedals are much easier to work with. If you do have a shop manual[mechanical procedures]book,go to the clutch adjustment section and perform this first. Good luck,DrD:)0
