i am a newby , both to the hudson world and this forum but i have to say you guys are a very special breed! you all make the saying "good help is hard to find!" a lie!

you all have helped me put a piece of my families history back on the road in no time! my 31 is getting very close to being driveable and reliable again all

within 3 winter months! thanks to you guys!

i also have 2 model a fords, and a model t roadster truck, but this hudson is a whole new adventure and a much better quality car , i love my Fords they are a lot of fun but this car is so different i cant wait to cruise her!

i also hope to display her this year at the henry ford old car festival. do any of you do that show? it is open to all makes and all makes come ! it is a whole new spin on a show! all vehicles are encouraged to drive thru greenfield village as much as possible ! it makes a great event . if any of you are interested it is for cars 1932 and back restored or unrestored, no hot rods, and there is a wide variety of events making it the must do weekend !

it changed our lives we stumbled upon it one year , since then i bought 2 model a's, a model t, 2 highwheel bicycles, 2 trailers to haul it all,a 38 ft diesel pusher motorhome to pull it all!, and built a 24 x 60 x 14, garage ma hall to store it all! now i have added this 31 hudson to the family too! i should have went to Disney World!

Glad you're enjoying your 'new' Hudson. Definitely, get it out to shows so people can see it! (For some reason, a lot of Hudsonites seem to like to drive only to Hudson meets, with a result that the general show-going public is fairly ignorant of our cars...)

As to being helpful, thanks for the encouraging word. We have all learned that we HAVE to be helpful to each other simply because we DON'T have cars as popular as Model A Fords! The parts and technical information for Hudsons are few and far between, so if we don't share these with each other, we're out of luck!
  • you are absolutely right! i have always been a younger man who listens to ol timers! i have learned many lessons the easy way because of it too!

you are also right on with the hudson owners doin mostly hudson meets only. however i hope to change that a little with mine! cant wait to dress like elliot ness or al capone and go have fun! my 14 yr old loves the action of these old cars too and he drives them as good or better tna i do! my son and i have a special bond with our cars that cant be matched with any sport or video game! thank God for little boys, and old cars!

Sybersell, you say some things that hit home for me. I just took a second to think of how our acreage would look had the old car hobby not found us, and about three buildings of various sizes would not be here. I also have a special bond with my Dad because of the old cars and we are mostly too busy discussing our plans and progress on each of our projects to argue!

I have a 36 Terrorplane, a 47 Pickup, a 49 Commadore and a 52 Twin H Hornet all on the road and working on a 40 Eight coupe. I attend all the muli-make shows I can, and host one each year. The other make guys appreciate the 'no registration, no judging, no trophies, and no hard feelings approach.

Last year, I met a guy 20 mi from here with 2 awesome Sterns Knights who won't go to judged shows but is coming to ours.

I attend our club events, but we all know what each other's cars look like. The great unwashed see Hudsons in a sea of other stuff and go nuts over them. Especially if ya start em up for them and let them sit in them.

Hi Bob...Would sure like to see some pictures please. Good story. Ron
  • UNcle Josh, What you said hits the nail on the head! When I take my 54 Hornet Special to the shows around here it is usually the only Hudson there, and peple are always telling me about the Hudson their Mother/Father/Sister/Brother etc. had. My car is a driver not a show car, so I often let them sit in the car. It is amazing how they get misty eyed over memories brought back to life by a car that hasn't been made in over 50 years.

Multi-marque shows! 2009 is the 100th Anniversary of the Hudson Motor Car Company and the 50th Anniversary of the Hudson-Essex-Terraplane Club. We are encouraging everybody to make an extra effort to get their car out where the public can see it in the next 18 months. There will be anniversary decals, etc. available at the 2008 National Meet and after. Watch the WTN for details! This is a once-in-our-lifetime opportunity! ;)

    Hi Bob,

Hope to see you at the Henry Ford Old Car Festival. I had not heard of this show before, and thanks to your referring to it in the above post, I sent in my application for it, and they invited me to bring my 20' Essex to the festivities. So looks like there will be at least two Hudson products there. Sounds like it will be a fun weekend. Have been working on my car since I bought it last fall, going through the mechanical systems to bring her back to a reliable roadworthy state again. Finally have her ready to go, and had my first test runs out on the road today. This car is a real hoot to drive!! :D Do you know of any other Hudson's that may attend?

:)Hi Bob, Great to have you onboard. The people on this forum are very helpful and encouraging. I currently have a '37 Terraplane,'41 Traveller, and two '49's. The '37 and one '49 are used occaissionaly. I also like International trucks, had a few, but my wife made me get rid of them,I gave them to a International collector, My wife kept telling me that I do not have the time for all my toy's. She was right. I just do not like seeing good uncommon vehicles go to the scrap yard. Once they are gone, they are gone for good. I have taken my Hudsons to all make meets and recieve very positive remarks. Once I was parked next to a trailer queen '55 Chevy Convertible, nice car really, and most people ignored the Chevy and really spent time looking at my driver'49 Hudson Super "6" Sedan. Enjoy your new treasure and take it to the shows, it will bring back memories for many older viewers. Have fun, Arnie
