1937 Terraplane window wipers

My wipers have never worked. Ive a few 6V wipers, so would like to fit electric wipers to my Terra. Ive seen a few old wrecks and have noticed that the chromed pot metal part that the wiper arm fits to is often seized, broken or badly corroded. What is the correct name for this part? I believe its common to a lot of Hudson years, and that the LH one is different to the RH one. Has anyone ever made replacements using modern better metal? I would appreciate someone sharing their knowledge and experiences on this subject. Regards, Barry

Hi Barry---If you are talking about the chrome plated wiper part that sticks up above the cowl & that the wiper arm attaches to, is commonly known as the wiper transmission. For 37, it had a linkage arm attached & I believe that Ficken may have some of these in stock. Hope this helps.---Cliff Minard. My wipers have never worked. This interchanges up to 1940 (though by 1940 there was a little threaded plug on the side, where the washer nozzle installed). You can still find them from time to time, new. No reason they disintegrate if the car is garaged and they're kept cleaned and waxed. Of course, bronze ones would be great, but would be extremely expensive to make due to the mechanicals. I'd just look for some NOS or good used ones, and have them plated. Keep 'me lubed, too.0

FYI
I have posted Threads on converting Pre-Stepdown Hudsons to electric Wipers using inexpensive JC Whitney $29 Motors. I have converted 3 Hudson's now. On the '37 I used the original Knob location as a push/pull switch.
Click Forum search Window for the details from Ol Racer and others.. They were very simple to install. You can even add an Itermitten switch if have 12V.
(JC Whitney also have 6V Motor)
I have freed up the wiper 'Transmissions' by soaking upside down with penetrant. The 37 & '47 look the same but are slightly different on the base where attaches to body. Always lube the little chain before installing.0 -
Thanks for the suggestions, Regards, Barry0
