It could be a loose valve guide allowing a valve to rock or a piece of carbon holding a valve open and not allowing it to seal against the valve seat in the block. Perhaps do a compression check and if you find one low, pull the head to inspect.0 -
I don't think it's carbon.... Makes to much noise..... get's worse as the engine warms up.....0

If the vehicle has been sitting for a while it could be a stuck valve, which will give you a mis and tapping. Try an engine top oil down the carb(s) with the engine at operation tempature and at a high idle speed - you will make a lot of smoke but it should un-stick the valve.

This is my driver... it's had alot of use over the last few years.... Would a stuck valve make a big tapping noise ? It's deffeinitly valve related though....0

Always start with the easiest thing first. I would check the compression then go from there? At least it might tell you where your problem is?

Maybe try unplunning your spark plug wires one at a time? See if it quits or at least changes0 -
I tried disconnecting wires ....makes no difference ...same noise.....0

Had this happen myself on my '54 Hornet coupe, had the best results running engine until completely warm, removed both air cleaner's from carb's, then poured Marvel Mystery oil down both carb's with engine running just above idle speed. Pour it into carb's a couple ounce's at a time, then release the throttle and let the engine stall. Turn off ignition and walk away from it for a few days, the Marvel oil will do the rest of the job ! !

Do a compression test to find which cylinder it is. It could be broken piston ring, or a stuck valve. If it's a stuck valve, it is usually the exhaust valve, and you should be able to knock it down through the plug hole.

:DI have had a similar problem years ago on my '49 Commodore, that Marvel Mystery oil helped to solve the noise and miss that went with it. Good Luck. Arnie0

I'd like to say thanks for all the help. I tried the Marvel in the Carb and kroil. I directly sprayed the kroil into the bad cylnder. It worked.... That stuff is golden... Engine running much better... As good as before.. I guess it must have been a stuck exhaust valve... Thanks again to all ....0
