Jet Pivot pin.
Help! Today, the pivot pin broke on my Jet, and I need a new one. Luckily I was only doing 20 m.p.h. at the time, when it broke, and the wheel collapsed inwards, with no damage. Does anyone know where I could obtain a new pin, part no. 308189, and a lower trunnion, 308207. Parts are A4-1 and A1-16 on Ill. No. 2 in the Jet parts book. Hudson dealers are a bit thin around these parts! Incidentally, the pin broke off at the bottom of the top threaded portion. Has anyone ever had this happen?

Sorry, no spares in my back pocket! But, have you tried e-mailing the Australian crowd? I'd think they'd be a lot more convenient in terms of shipping, than we Yanks!0

Hi Geoff,
Here are two places that you might like to try. They both deal in parts for all makes, but I have had pretty good luck with them from time to time with Hudson, and Essex parts.
The first is Vintage Auto Parts Inc. http://www.vapinc.com/ They have suspension parts, and was able to find NOS King Pins & Bushings for my 20 SX from them. Great guys to work with. Super service, and quick to ship.
The other is Northwestern Auto Supply http://www.northwesternautosupply.com/ They also are great to work with, and very helpful.
Hope this is a help to you, as I very much appreciate the assistance that you have given me in the past fielding tech questions for my SX.

Hi Again Geoff,
Just remembered another place that you might try. Then & Now Automotive might be worth a shot. http://www.then-now.com/services.htm

G'day Geoff. Ramblers of that period used trunions, no idea if they interchange though.0

Thanks for the replies, currently waiting for responses from the contacts given, but not hopeful. Unfortunately, it appears that the Jet is a one-off suspension, so I may have to get the pivot pin made. Anyone else interested if I have to go down this road? May be economical to get several made at the same time. Kind of scary though, that the pin just snapped off below the thread. Has anyone else had this happen?

Hi Geoff, I have a whole used set up. It was in a flood and is rusty. You would have to clean it up. If you can use it let me know.
Thanks, Charles S.0 -
if a pin with a thread on the end will ever let go, it will be through the thread due to the minor diameter of the threaded section being the weak point. cut threads suffer this more than rolled ones do.0

Thank you for the offer Charles. I can get a second hand unit here in N.Z., but figured a new one would be preferable in something as important as the suspension.

This one broke right across the bottom thread of the pin. Doesn't look like a fatigue break, as in an axle shaft. Have had axles break in my Pacemaker, Super Six, and Jet, and each time the break looked really clean, like it had been cut off with a knife, apart from the last little bit that finally let go. This pivot pin had a fractured look right across the break. Perhaps the hardening process was too thorough, making it brittle.0 -
Well, I've drawn a blank on every source I tried. Seems like these parts are just not obtainable any more. Unfortunately the Jet suspension doesn't seem to match with any other. I have the Jet back on the road with a used wishbone assembly, but would like to rebuild the damaged one and have on hand as a spare. I will look in to getting new pivot pins made. Is anyone else interested, as I could get several done at once. I'm not holding my breath though. From past experience, most people are not interested in this sort of project until they actually need the part.

Geoff, I'll take a set of Jet Pivot pins if you get some made. Maybe two sets if the price is right. My local Las Vegas Hudson dealer is fresh out of them LOL.0

There was a guy out of Vancouver selling them I will have to see if I can find that guys info.0

Thank you for your responses. I have had the offer of a NOS one from a club member, so that is cheering. I will go ahead and investigate the costings to get new ones made, and publish here. These would be of best grade steel, but would not be hardened, as this can cause them to go brittle. Perhaps that's why mine broke, who knows. Seems odd that the pivot pins are bearing in steel trunnion. Usually there is a softer bushing somewhere, but not in this instance.

While I know not if your are intersted in USED JET pivots. There are two on eBay being sold by a club member at a very reasonable price. At the current asking price they maybe the spares one may need for the next Million miles in a Jet.
