Guys - an obit for John, who died at the age of 90, in OCW received today.
If you never knew or met him, he worked for AMC for a long time & was a major source of HET literature, esp. providing original factory photos. He used to always come to Nationals & set up a card table which was frequented by those of us interested in literature & research - I'm sure I still have stuff I bought from him.
He was a really true "gentleman" of the old school & I was sorry to read of his passing.

I met John at the '96 National in Detroit. A real gentleman. He signed his book for me and I purchased several factory photos from him. His passing is a great loss for the HET and the automotive world as a whole.0

I met the gentleman in '88 in York - I think it was - but definitely in Waterbury.
My dealing with him involved a Rambler my wife, at the time, had. Something in the exhaust header got broken somehow and the local AMC garage sold her a bunch of BS. (I was out on weather patrol with the Coast Guard at the time). Said they had replaced something, but the nuts and bolts on what supposedly had been replaced obviously hadn't been taken apart. I was told by the dealer, "the bill's what it is!!!"
So I called John, explained my problem, apologized for taking his time - and the next morning there was an AMC representative from Boston (80 miles away) on my front door step. He looked at the car, agreed there was a "margin of error" in the billing.
Bottom line was we paid nothing, the dealer was threatened with loss of franchise (he said he didn't care - he also had Chrysler/Dodge. I don't remember if Chrysler owned AMC at the time or not.) He was informed by the AMC rep he could possibly loose that franchise as well.
As said John was a gentleman - nice to chat with. He will be missed.
