I found a 2 door sedan in a junkyard last weekend. It's a 51-53. No engine or trans, not much trim outside. No vin tag on pass door post. How can I figure out what it is?

  • Is it a long or a short wheelbase car? Does it have the wide rear window or the slightly smaller window of the early 50-51 vintage?. Did it have stainless trim above the belt line? If it did you have a 52-3 car. Best thing would be to post a picture here for all to see and help ID.

I would gather some pictures of the 51-53 2doors from the INTERNET. Use the pictures to compare to the vehicle in the yard. Several specific methods to ID...

The dash in a 51 is differnent than the 52-53. Compare the insturement clusters... 51 different than the 52-53. The front fender extenstions for are different 51 vs 52/53. Hood ornaments... all different... the holes in the hood tell the story if the ornament gone... 51 on top of hood... 52 in front of hood... 53 down center of top and two holes right and left of center to hold the scoop in place.

    Thanks for the tips.

I'll go out there again on Monday to take some pictures and put them up here. I think it's a short wheelbase.

I like the 2 door step-down sedans, but don't see very many. Were fewer made, or more crushed? If I adopt it, will replacement parts be made of 'unobtainium'?

By the way, I still need a gas tank for my 46 pick up, if any body has one under their sofa.
