    Rambo,

I cannot belive that anyone with enough desposable income to have a Hudson project can't scrape up a lousy $20 bucks to join the HET Club. You take advantage of the club web site, parts and tecnical information, and the wealth of knowledge in the club membership, but somehow you feel that it isn't worth $20. I would like to know the real reason you haven't joined, don't tell me it's the $20 bucks.

I hope when you get your Hudson done and you bring it to the Nationals, you are not one of the guys who refuse to register so they don't have to pay the $15 fee.

If the members on this forum will help, I think we can shame you into joining, if not, I hope Rambo bites you in the butt.

Jeesh - no ones been tight on cash before WHILE working on a project? I've bought and remodled a house and self funded a start-up business with no outside help on a single income - Hmmmm... Nah - I'm just making up excuses, I can come up with more if you would like ;) !

Seriously though - right now I have to come up with at least 1500 bucks to get basic stuff to make my Resto-Rod run so I don't have to PUSH IT BY MYSELF everytime I want to do something to it!

Parts like a 12v wiring harness, battery, fuel cell, rear axle, complete brakes and all the plumbing and some switches - with the GM454/TH400 drivetrain and newer electronics.

Whoops! I forgot before I can do all of that I need to come up with another 1000.00 to get the car hauled to the sandblasters and then to the body shop for primer - THEN - I can get it running!

I don't see how spending 20.00 right now to join HET helps me accomplish any of my short term goals or move the car.

Will the smattering of bits-o-information out there on the HET website help me at all in this regard?

I don't think having technical information on rebuilding a stepdown carb is going to help me (on this project...) - and last I heard if you put a web page up on the internet that is not on a secure server that requires a log in - ANYONE in the world can FREELY browse the pages (this IS the World Wide Web)

We all can't afford to buy #1 or #2 rated cars to rod or restore - So if you're trying to 'shame' money out of my pocket - keep trying - but maybe you should walk a mile in my shoes first... :D
  • AMEN! I almost quit the club once because of a remark made by a well known member. Fortunately, my love for my cars and some of the other members made me stay.

Join if you want to, or just visit, if that is more to your liking. When you are ready to join you will.....

Well I'll Put In My 2 Cents I've Been On Both Sides Of This Issue I'm Paul Schuster I Was The National Meet Chairman Last Year In Pittsburgh Pa We Had Some People Last Year Choose Not To Pay $15 To Regester Our Chapter Members And Alot Of Others Did A Lot Of Work To Make Things Come Out As Great As They Did No One Said A Thing But In My Mind I Think They Were Nothing But Cheep!!!

I've Also Been A Past National Club Director For 9 Years To Join Or Not To Join ??? There Isn't A Good Reason Not To Join In My Mind The Het Family

I'm 55 I've Been In The Hudson Club Since 71 Yes 34 Years During That Time I To Have Built Houses ( Mostly To Get A Bigger Garage) Raised 2 Great Kids I've Seen Bad Times In Those 34 Years I've Lost A Few Jobs And As Others Have Said Seen A Lot Of Change Mostly For The Good. We Have Made Life Long Friends From All Over The Country I've Restored A 50 Pacemaker Convertible And Got Parts From All Over. Some From Guys In My Own Back Yard So To Speak And Other All The Way Across The Country Some A Prices So Cheep I'll Never Be Able To Thank The Guys Who Sold Them To Me And Others A Prices That I Thought Were Steep But The 50's Done Now And We Are Being Offered Big $$$$ I'm Not One To Throw My Money Away But Cheep At $20 Per Year For All The Fun We Have Had If Your Not A Member You Don't Know What Your Missing And We Will Never Be Able to Explain It To You

  • First, I want to thank BJ-TN for all the work he does, and all the folks involved, for putting together the "Hudsons in the Heartland" event in Pigeon Forge. I wish there were more events like that and I do hope to follow that example one day. Thanks.

Second, on the HET membership. I've been in Rambos-rides's shoes. I hung around here for nearly 5 years before joining. It was one reason or another, but I'm glad I finally did. Thanks to JonB, KenC, KenU, AlexB, BJ-TN, BK - they politely encouraged me for those years. And, for what its worth, here I am.

I first came here looking to modify a competitive antique pulling tractor with a Hudson 308. Look at me now, I have 2 Hudson stepdown coupes and a member of the HET with my name in the roster. Now that I am a member, I do hope to follow the example of the influences that brought me this far. Thanks fellas.

Take your time Rambos-ride. But do join when you can. I like your ideas and they seem to be sparking ideas elsewhere, and I think thats a good thing.

I joined when I was 19 and bought a Hudson and did some homework. Membership was one of the first things I got because HET helped me gain access the the network of great people who have helped me and without which I would've had a heck of a time making those connections. Incidentally I found HET on the original classiccar.com site when the internet was a little newer (when more websites were password free) and I said to myself "hey maybe the internet has leads for something as obscure as Hudson's. Sure enough it did... and the world of Hudsoning opened up... I even because a chapter newsletter editor for a while. Now I'm 27 and I can honestly say I don't regret droppin the $30 and I look forward to the WTN. But I can also say I can sympathize with Rambo because I have found that you get time or money but rarely do you get both at the same time and lack of funds has slowed down my projects too. If my funds were equal to my Hudsoning ambitions I'd have my projects done next month. :) LOL -- Anyone who is looking for a cheap hobby will find that cars are not one of time. Well..... maybe if you collect juckyard Hundais. haha

With all due respect to all involved, I think we've milked this thread dry! Further discussion is repetitive and only serves to inflame things. Hey, we've all said our peace. Our friend will join when he's ready. Let's move on!
  • Agreed. I e-mailed Clinton Webb (HET President) last night and told him of this topic.

Well said! Great discussions from everyone involved - I don't think this discussion got too overly heated and a lot of really great ideas where forwarded for trying to further the Hudson cause and maybe setup some internal discussions for HET officers to look at.

If the HET officers don't frequent this forum - they should, We forum members are on the cutting edge of internet usage and that will help drive further communication and participation into the future for our beloved Hudsons and all who support them.
