Aaron: pleas send me an obit for the WTN...w/photo, if possible. Thanks. Sam
  • Jim was my first contact with the Hudson Club. I don't recall how I found his name and phone number, but I did call him and he introduced me to the club. This was in 1969 and I was in mortuary school and later in 1970 moved to Lombard where I worked at a funeral home there for two years. Jim and his wife invited me to their home in Glen Ellyn many times for a meal that I always really enjoyed. Jim always had a martini ready for me when I arrived and really had a hard time getting it down--just didn't like the taste but got it down and was tanked by the time we ate. Over time I acquired the taste and looked forward to friday nites. Enjoyed working with Jim on his green wasp--grinding valves, brake work, replacing the clutch ,etc. Went with Jim to my first national meet in Pittsburgh or Baltimore in 1970 . Recall driving 1000 miles in 12 hours. Both of us took turns driving and drove between 85-95 on the turnpike. Haven't had contact with Jim the past few years but will always have the fond memories. Hope theres a can of Hudsonite on his casket spray. Rest in peace Jim.

Jon, I sold your Dad a Green-gold and St. Clair gray '54 Hornet sedan in 1966. Do you know what became of that car? It was from Dayton, Ohio. He rode a bus from Illinois and stayed overnight at my house, then drove the Hudson home the next day.

So many leaving us. It was with sadness that I read in the WTN of the passing of Tom Childs.

Back in 1969 I accquired, thru my dad who found it in a (unused) chicken house, a 1953 Hornet Sedan. At the time I was stationed in Hawaii and was coming home on leave. Dad bought the Hudson for me as an early Christmas present.

After returning to Hawaii I was reading some car magazine and there was a letter to the editor from Tom Childs and he talked about something called the Hudson-Essex-Terraplane Club. As his address was included with the letter I was able to drop him a note and in due course he replied with an application blank and telling me about the club.

The Hornet is gone, Tom is now gone, a lot of years have gone by since 1969 - but I'm still with the Club. Unfortunately I never got a chance to meet Mr. Childs, much to my regret - but at least, belatedly, I can say Goodby, Sir and thank you for 40 years with a great and wonderful car club. As my friend Mike Elwell would say - Safe journey home.
