After paying AOL for ten years and then having them offer me free service they have decided they want me to be a paying member again and created a mask over the site. So for the time being it will be down while I move to another provider. I may host it on my server or get it up on another service. I will post the new address when all that happens.

    Thanks
  • Good for you. Screw AOL.
  • You mean, people actually still use AOL???

I finally broke down and "bought" my site on Freewebs about a year ago. The price, under $15 a year, is worth it to me as I can place a large amount of stuff there.

In the meantime we continue adding larger manuals to Gregg Maroney's site so those should be around for a while. If it doesn't work out with the HET Club then perhaps Gregg will take over my site, eventually. Time will tell.

It really is a labor of love - and you have to keep at it. I know there have been some great Hudson members sites that have drifted off into limbo because of work, family or other pressures, or simply loosing interest in maintaining the sites.

In keeping with the fact I ain't getting any younger I've been in contact with Mike Cherry, after talking to John Sherlock at the National, about putting my Freewebs site on an HET Club site, should such come to pass, so it wouldn't be lost.

I ain't gonna be around forever, folks.

I am not sure what happened... but AOL reinstated my website. I will continue my plan to GHOST the AOL site and then move the site to another server. For the time being as long as AOL displays the site it will be there for your use.

    Cheers from Texas ;)

  • We have enjoyed viewing your site for as long as we've had a computer and realized that the HET references to your site were there for a very good reason. Lots of stuff, thanks, Bob

Hi: Tonite when I logged onto my CPU and my HUDSON web page came up the following banner appeared:

So after 10 years my Hudson web site will close due to AOL decison. :( I suggest that who ever would like information from the site get it now. The future of the Web site is dependant on time and my desire to continue to provide care and feeding. So, thanks for the support and do take the time to get the information you need NOW.

    Best Regards :)
  • Ken, if you don't mind, let me know if you want me to host the website on my server for you. I can archive it and try to restore it, see how it works. I would hate to see the site lost forever. Looks like I got enough server space, and traffic is not bad, since I started monitoring it. Let me know, send me a PM, I don't get around here as much, right now, but should be back sooner or later, much to many a member's delight! haha, anyway, just drop me a note, and I will get it in the works, easier yet, would be if you could archive the site, burn it to a CD, and send it to me.

    Best!

  • Ken,

Any news on saving or backing up your site? I see that AOL is shutting it down on Halloween. Let us know what your plan is.
  • The website has been moved to my own server. When the move bugs are clear I will provide the new site address. Thanks for the interest and support.

Seems like everybody is bailing out - AOL, now MSN. As posted earlier I've got just about everything off my MSN site and moved over to my freewebs site.

Really wasn't all that much of a job - now, tho, I think I'll back up everything on the site. Before anybody has a heart attack I have hard copies of most everything in notebooks, so if I had to I could reproduce it all - just take a little time.

:( KEN CATES' STEPDOWN RESTORATION AIDS hosted by AOL is now non existant. :(

As I stated... when I have the new site location bugs worked out... I will provide that site address. :)

An older version of Ken Cate's great StepDown website is still available, archived, at

    http://web.archive.org/web/20060828024619/http://members.aol.com/stepdown53/STEPDOWNPG.html

Please keep in mind that this is an archive from a couple years ago. It may not contain the latest information. If anything fails to open up here, it's not Ken's fault, as this is an archive that is floating around the internet, which I just happened to latch onto.

Ken, if for any reason you don't want this to appear, let me know and I'll remove it.

There are still some travin' pains in some of the links but the majority of the site is operational and available to those who need this information. As I get time I will fix the links that go nowhere and adust those that seem to be wandering though some of the text entires. :o

    Woo-HOO! Ken-

Thanks for making the effort to keep the site active, most appreciated.
  • Really great news, I use the site as often as I am able to work on my Hudsons. Thanks, Bob
  • Ken,

Yes, thanks for getting your site back online. Visiting it has become a daily ritual to me like coffee in the morning and shaving.
