Is a 1925 Essex engine interchangable with a 1925 Hudson engine? If not - are any Essex engines interchangable with a 1925 Hudson Engine? Thanks in advance to all who respond.

These are 2 different cars. What are you trying to accomplish?

The answer is "No", and "No". As stated, they are two entirely different cars. There are no interchangeable parts between them.

Probably the only thing that would interchange between Hudson and Essex cars would be a few nuts and bolts!!

And the way Hudson did things, I wouldn't want to bet on that!!!!!

  • Thanks to all of you who have responded. I'm looking for a backup engine for my 1925 Hudson - and - was wondering whether any (or all) Essex parts might be interchangable. Again thanks. Rich

Rich, for your information, you can interchange 1924-5-6 Hudson engines, and could even use any Hudson Super Six engine up to 1929, but there are basic differences between various models. 1927-'29 had F-head valve arrangement. Up to 1923 the carburettor was on the left side of the motor. Other differences in the early models are the gear change mechanisms. However, any complete engine and transmission unit would drop into your car with littel modification. Good luck,

    Geoff.

Some general info. The ignition switch and the horn button/adjusters on the steering wheel are the same for 1924 Hudson (possibly 1925) and also the early Essex. I havent seen any other common parts. Re motors, in Aust we continued using the same combined Delco starter/genny system on our motors (1922 to 1926)when USA went to the Bosch & Auto lite system. Until I found this out I was surprised that all the motors I was finding were similar. The spare parts books (printed in the USA) list the caps & rotas for the Hudsons for all the years. I thought all my Christmas's has come at once when an Aust vintage car parts dealer said she had caps & rotas etc for 1924 Hudsons. When they arrived they were for the Bosch electrical system. Its unfortunate the shipping costs are so great between Aust & the USA. Regards, Barry
