Info and insurance advice.
Hey all,
Looking for some advice on insurance coverage for my 36 Terraplane.
Probably more important would be someone who has had a claim and how their company handled it! Its not a show car by any means and is only recently back on the road and only summer driven. All input welcome!
I live in Washington state.
Thanks!

You'll get a lot of recommendations. Mine would be J.C. Taylor antique auto insurance. Been with them for about 30 years. Had a highway accident in '83 and, no questions asked, they paid for the repairs quickly and painlessly.0

I am very simplistic in my advice. I have a business locally and deal with several insurance companies such as State Farm, Farmers, Grundy and then the national brands that cover antique cars. I do assessments and evaluations after stolen/recovered and not recovered and damaged cars. Most insurance companies have a program for antique cars and will cover value of car up to $20,000 if the car is nice and the investment is reasonable. They require an assessment if the value is above this or if the vehicle does not seem to be worth $20,000 in their estimate. I have seen the best "pay-off's" when the car owner obtains an assessment from a licenced appraiser. I have been a part of several accident reviews and those with assessments recovered 100 percent of their stated value of the assessment. I have reviewed cars that were damaged and cars that were stolen and the percentage with out an assessment is normally about 80%. The percentage goes down with respect to the body style and how new the car is. The cost of full coverage differs with the value of the vehicle, but normally runs about $12.00 per month. I had my Hudson's insured through State Farm. I've had good luck with them but I also had an agent that went to bat for me too. Also it would be important to move up the value of your cars on your policy as it increases if you have a restoration project. They did not seek an appraisal, only pictures.0

I had a claim with State Farm, and was very impressed with how quickly and fair they were.
The adjuster inspected the car, read my estimate and wrote me a check in about 15 minutes.
Its how the claims are paid that makes insurance good, not a nice ad or a low price.0 -
Thanks again all for the input! Helpful as always!

Have J.C. Taylor for over 25 years. Never had made a claim, but have heard from others that they are good for "CAR" claims. But beware if you get injured, as the maximum med pay in this state (Nevada) is $1,000. That would not cover anything more than a scratch ! Check with your state, as many states require a much higher med pay, which would protect you and your passengers from being wiped out of your savings.0

Highly recommend J.C. Taylor. Been with them many years. Carry both property and liability with them on my Hudsons. Had a claim of $6,000 or so a few years ago. Very satisfactory experience. No problems with payment; they sent a highly qualified guy to look at the damage and the shop estimate, and paid with no hassle. The "assailant" had insurance, but Taylor didn't require me to go after them ... they paid me and they went after the other party's insurance co. They don't pressure you to go to a cheap shop; they recognize that you'll want to use a quality shop that knows and is happy to work on the old stuff. And they don't put a stingy maximum annual mileage limit on your usage of the car.0
