There is a big auto museum in Istanbul, but I dıd not recieve dispensation to go there durig the 1st 4 days of the trip. We stop there again on on way home, so maybe I will get to it then. I did see a nice 56 Ford 4 dr sedan today, still ın use and going strong. This keyboard is very hard to use. I havent fıgued out the symbols, ö ç ş ğ ü and they seem to have hiden the apostrope.0

In Konya, there is a small but devoted American car group. One guy, who owns several carpet souks, has a '63 Galazie ragtop, a '59 Ford retractable, and a '65 Chevy Nova ragtop....and he drives them daily!
There are actually quite a few American cars and trucks in use over there. Most were originally imported by US servicemembers, but many were also sold new in Turkey. I remember seeing late '40s Chryslers and DeSotos in use as taxicabs in Ankara in the early '90s!0 -
While stationed in Turkey during the 60s there were quite a few Stepdown Hudsons in daily use. At that time most of the roads could be characterized as donkey tracks.0

Cappadoccia is a must-see!!! A Turkey tour is not complete until you have visited there. A complete underground city, started by the Hittites around 900 BC and expanded by many different peoples living there, including Christians that were hiding from the Romans. It's phenomenal, and it ranks right up with the Holy Land and the Egyptian Pyramids as places you must visit at least one time!0

Patrick, We spent 4 days ın Cappadoccıa, ıt ıs pretty amazıng, we even stayed in a cave hotel. It ıs one of the most interesting places that we have travelled. We are just ending two weeks on the Lycian coast, touring ancient Greek & Roman sıtes, also amazıng and the coast is really beautiful and scenıc. The coastal mountaıns are very dramatic, we have a rental car and the roads are all very modern and easy driving. The cost of gas is pretty soberıng, but otherwise real easy, the people are very friendly and every tıme I try to speak to them ın Turkish they burst out laughing, man it is a very difficult language!
Ken, where were you statıoned in the 60`s? I am sure that it has changed a lot sınce then.0
