I have a '54 hornet Special with a (bad?) automatic transmission and was wondering if any of you have done this conversion. If so were there any problems/ advantages with the project?

    Ol racer,

Were you are to use the original Hydramatic shift lever, or did you go with a different shifter, different column, etc?

I actually used a couple different methods. In the St Rod Trk I installed a GM Tilt Column then in the Stock Trk I used the Std Shift Lever. In both cases I had to install a different linkage Rod from the Trans lever (arm) over to the Column Gear Rod. There are a couple St Rod companies that sell a neat adjustable 'arm' with heim joints for $30 - $45 that I purchased... Iddit is just one Company. You need to bend to fit then saw excess. On the Std Linkage I attached a neutral Sw to the Linkage on the firewall.

Iddit also Sells an inexpensive $10) Indicator & Pointer to attach to your Column .

The Dual Range Rod may work but the Selector Positions may be off...
