I'm a new member and am interested in the Hudson race engines. I apologize if this has been asked/answered but what is the availability of the split exhaust manifold? I expect it is a rare part.

Comments

  • Welcome new member. Although the split exhaust manifolds are rare, they are not impossible to find. No known reproductions are currently being made as far as I know.
  • Talk to Hudsonator on here he is forging a new batch and has the mold so he can tell you more.
  • I seem to remember Dave Sollan (?) having had one for sale? I think it was $400....

Try a thread search on "7X" and you may find it somewhere there. There should also be a pic of one aswell.
  • Here is a link to one of the threads. It has alot of great info on the 7X.

Keep in mind that there is another alternative to the split manifold, and that is going with a set of headers. There is a club member that makes up several sets at a time. Unfortunately his name and contact information eludes me but someone will pipe up, I'm sure. They are typically either $800 or $850 a set, but of course breathe much better than a manifold (even a split one). For a full-on race 7X, headers would be the "right" way to go, for more hp. Of course, a split manifold would be more "original", because back in the day, a dealer-installed 7X would have had the manifold.
  • The name of the guy producing headers is Bruce Silva of Sacramento California. These are a bit expensive but are all TIG welded together, a work of art one might say. Lou Cote Ps installing those will require some rework of your draft tube.

Just so there isn't any misunderstanding. The 7X dual exhaust manifold is not the same as the dual exhaust adapter that was on the market for a while and may be reproduced again. It has been advertised as a 7X dual exhaust, but isn't. It is a very neat part that allows you to put dual exhaust on your car without the big expense of headers, keeps the stock heat risers and pretty neat appearance. I think it requires removing the oil pump to install unless you already have the manifold off the car. It replaces the exhaust outlet that is bolted to the bottom of the manifold with three bolts. I have one, but never could justify the expense of replacing my perfectly good single system. I'll bring it to PF if anyone is interested in purchasing it.
  • i still split the hudson manifolds. 8's or 6's @$195 a pop

I have the Cliffords with Twin H and no problems. Just out of curiosity, those of you with stepdows, what are you running size wise for head pipes off the header collectors?
