Happy Anniversary!
The best part of smoking is NOT.... reformed smoker ... NEVER AGAIN0 -
Someone once asked me if I smoked after sex. I told I don't know I
never looked.
I never smoked. I remember cleaning the windows of my father '63 Dodge Dart and how yellow the paper towels got. Plus the burn holes in the seat. Blah!!
What a disgusting habit.0 -
Cold turkey and don't look back. 1 3/4 years for me so far. You can do it!

Quit due to health problems in 1989, Don't miss them and can't stand the smell of them now. Still have the health issues but not the Nicotine habit.
Never too late to quit.

Hi Ron, Good luck to you. I gave them up 28 years ago next month, I smoked for 20 years +. Best move I ever made was to throw them in the trash and walk away from them. The first three days were rough but I made up my mind to take control of my life and not the other way around. I reasoned that I wasn't gonna make the tobacco cos rich by smoking myserlf to death. My uncle died of a massive heart attack at 67 brought on by 60+ years of smoking and I didn't want to go that way. More power to you . Steve.0

Good for all of you who quit smoking! My dad smoked and I cleaned the trim above the Hollywood we had, yellow crud. He told me if I ever smoked, he would kill me, I never have because I saw what it did to him, he died at age 59. Over 10 years ago I was jogging and was thinking about my father, and remembered I was older than he was when he had the heart attack that finally made him quit smoking, I was 51. Quitting smoking is a battle worth winning!0

As You know, I quit after a heart attack in 1989. My Wife quit for years after that but started again in 1996. I am pleased to say that she has quit again. This time she used that new drug CHANTIX, it blocks the nicotine receptors in the brain, so you can smoke while taking it but you don't get the effects of the smoke in your brain. Then you can start cutting back because it curbs the craving. After 6-8 weeks she didn't want a smoke. However If you start to slip, just take the pills again until you are over the desire....It really works, now after 9 months she hasn't needed a
pill. I really think she will make it this time.

:Congrats Ron, YOU DID IT!, stay with it. I was in the local convienence store the other day and saw the prices on packs of cigarets, that alone would make me stop. I never really smoked, tried one or two in my teen years but did not like them. I live in an area of several casinos and many of them are putting in non smoking areas for gamblers. I know people who are dealers or change persons that realy like the non smoking areas. It is amazing how careless and rude some smokers are. The tragic thing one see's in casinos frequently are older people who sit in front of a machine with their oxygen tank hooked up, smoking a cigaret, and having a drink, DANGEROUS! but the casinos look the other way as they do not want to offend their customers who have major addictions.
My cousins former mother in law died tragicaly several years ago while smoking in bed while on an oxygen tank and fell asleep, setting the house on fire. I am sure all of those that have given you encouragment have probably heard a similar tragedy.
It took many uears fighting the monkey on my back, {alcohol} but I finally got control of it by living one day at a time. Yesterday is history, today, the present, tomorow the future. Take care Ron and good luck, you have done well. Arnie in Nevada0
