MADE IN CANADA Hudson Pacemaker

Hi all

I was hoping someone could help myself and my son out with our pacemaker. We cannot seem to find any information on it. We know it was built in Canada. Would anyone be able to direct us to where we could find more info. The serial number is 1899 and the model is 11-A. I believe the engine is a 232 flathead 6. Any comments would be most appreciated.

Thank you Rod and Mitchell

Hudson did indeed have an assembly plant for Canada (Tilbury Ontario I think) and from what I've been told the serial tag should have a maple leaf stamped on it. The serial number doesn't make sense on this side of the border but if it started with 4A it would be a '51 Pacemaker. All Pacemakers came with the 232 6cyl optional with or without overdrive and two different rear ends depending on which trans it had.

Post war Pacemakers were made from 1950-52 model year. The more things you can tell us about the car you have the more we can tell you about the history. OH and do consider joining the Hudson Essex Terraplane club if you are not a member. You won't regret it. Our 2009 100 year national convention is in July in Pontiac MI.

I joined HET when i was 19 and my first Hudson car was a '51 Pacemaker.
  • 11A is correct for a Tilbury built Pacemaker. There will not be a maple leaf on the serial plate. Yes its a 51 Pacemaker. Not much difference to the US model. So any of the parts you can find for a 51 Pacemaker will fit.

Thanks guys, Rod posted this request for info on my freewebs site the other day and all I could tell him, for sure, was it was made in Canada.

As I told him I've known of the existance of this model (11A) for over 30 years - but this is the first one I've ever heard of. The only info I had for it was on one of the Hudson weight sheets I have in my General Info Handbook, and that only gave weights for a 4-dr. sedan. Needless to say my info on Canadian built Hudsons is this weight sheet and the info that Canadian models in the 1930's carried the letter "C" in the model/serial number.

I was under the impression, that while the basic car was pretty much the same as U S built Pacemakers, that there was some difference in the outside trim package - but I can't remember where I heard that info.

  • Yes there are some trim differences inside and out. Mainly to do with what materials were used. I have seen Canadian stepdowns with different trim. Chrome instead of stainless stuff like that.
  • Rod/Mitchell, Where are you located? Are you in Canada?
  • yes we are in saskatchewan, canada
  • Thank you all for the info... What type of details about the car would help uncover it's history? We dont want to start disassembly until we know that the car is or was common. We hadn't planned on a ground up restoration but more or less a fixxer upper. We don't want to make any modifications we cant reverse. Any advice or opinions would be greatly appreciated....

    Thanx Rod and Mitchell
  • Hey Rod, I am located in Edmonton. And yes this is a common Pacemaker for Canada. I have seen lots of them in my travels around looking for Hudsons here in Canada. So have at it and you will be able to use US 51 Pacemaker parts with this no problem.
