Hudson 8 piston rings - installation HELP
I'm assembling the engine for my '39 Hudson Eight sedan with a set of new .030"-over Egge pistons and rings that were supplied with the pistons. The compression rings are chamfered on one inside edge and carefully packaged so every pair of rings has the chamfers facing each other.
Does anyone know if that is how they are to be installed? I put this stuff in the closet 15 years ago and can't remember the specifics... The engine was bored, the head decked and valve seats done before I put everything away in 1992 and forgot about it.
I put in a spare engine that a local hotrodder pulled from his '39 so I could finally take a ride after all this time... not bad. I can imagine how nice the new engine will be!

I would say that since Egge manufactures their own pistons, and they are slightly different than stock Hudson parts, your best bet would be to contact them to find out the correct way to orient the rings. If you were to install them incorrectly, they won't seat right, and could cause excessive oil consumption, as well as other problems. Here is a link to their web site with current contact info: http://www.egge.com/?site=2&d=20&dt=11
Hope this is a help to you.0 -
I have used Egge rings and they put an information page in the box with a drawing on how the rings should be installed. I'm sure they could send you one.0

I'm sure that information page is out there somewhere:D. Anyway, if anyone remembers please let me know. If not, I'll contact Egge on Monday.0 -

Hi Doug,
I lost count of how many trips, and carloads of people I took for rides during that meet! LOL. I know one trip there were a total of 7 on board, (5 adults, and 2 small kids)! Maybe I should install some folding jump seats.LOL. It was a blast, and the best part of having one of these early "time machines" is being able to take people out for rides to share the experience of bombing down the road like they did 88 years ago.
Consider this an open invitation to you, and anyone else interested that's reading this, to be sure to have me take you out for a ride at the next Hudson meet, or show that you see me & the SX at. Am planning on having it out quite a lot next summer including the Orphan Car Show in Ypsilanti, and the HET National Meet.0
