stepdown tank sender and question

My recollection is that an original is really tough to find, but certain Ford units are a good substitute. Search old threads, or perhaps someone with more specific knowledge will weigh in. As to the coating, there are many different products used, so may or may not be red. At least a few are white or off-white.0

The radiator shop that has cleaned and sealed for me used a red sealer. Dennis Carpenter has Ford tank senders that I have used. In 6 volt or 6or12. Have to cut the float wire and bend it to fit the slant of the Hudson tank.0

Here is the link to Dennis Carpenter. The part number you want is 99A-9275 and it's called a Fuel Tank Sending Unit.

To follow-up on 308's comments. The sender is simply a variable resistor in the gauge circuit. Using the original Hudson gauge and power supply is all that is needed after making the appropriate bends in the float rod. Hudson gauges were intended to run on an average five volt input, but more modern six volt gauge supplies (70sh Ford Broncos) seem to work, though some say they might read a bit high. If you need to replace yours, there are a number of options including solid state devices for about $ 15.00. I'm running the latter (5V), but don't have enough time on it to know how it's going to hold-up. Works well now. Walt-LA0
