Is this the original interior ?

Comments

  • The seat and door panels look original.
  • Yep Harry it is. Came in two flavors. The one you see is the blue interior with the blue marble steering wheel, gearshift knob and etc. The other one was the brown interior with the maroon wheel ,gearshift knob and etc. Not exactly your fashion award winners but thats the way it was on the Hornets and Commodores.

Do you think that the exterior is the original color ? I know that it says it is but the combo seems stange.....

Exterior color looks like 1951's Toro Red, so that's OK, but I'd be amazed if Hudson put a blue interior in a car that color (yeah, I know the lore ... you could get them to do anything if ....). My former Toro Red '51 Commodore coupe had the brown interior treatment, which definitely was original.

PARK, Brown makes more sense to me.... do you think this car might have been blue ?

Certainly could have been. You might ask the seller if he can give you the paint code number, on the upper hinge of the passenger side door (the portion of the hinge that's on the body pillar). Blue colors were Pacific Blue (59), Bali Blue (45), Admiral Blue (87). The stamped number is sometimes hidden by the vertical weatherstrip that covers part of the hinge plate.

It's owned by a Dogwood Chapter member, in Goldsboro, NC. He's given it a needed repaint, still Toro Red, but now with a white top.
  • One thing about the Stepdowns, you could sure get some wacky color combinations...!
  • My '53 Super Jet has the green interior with the toro red exterior. Original colors. So I wouldn't doubt his claim that the Hornet came that way.

As I recall, in 1951 you could order either interior with any color of exterior. It seems they didn't have a cut & dried trim for a particular exterior color - that came later on, like in '53 & '54
