1952 Hornet coupe restoration
Getting a little ahead of myself however today I purchased PPG Deltron DBU B/C white / maroon / clear paint requirements. Plan on rerturning to where my car is being restored this Saturday, car body is being blasted for the second time since I started project, hopefully will have undercarriage complete and painted, if so this weekend I'll attach some pictures. In the meantime I've attached a couple of paint combinations I am considering; colors shades are not exactly what I will be using.
Now that the car is upside down, leaf springs removal wasn't difficult, I realize I can purchase new springs from Easton, however mine look real decent and we plan to take apart, blast, rebuild and paint them; presently using free arch as measurement guide. If anyone has has helpful recommendations I'd appreciate learning of your past experience and results?
Thanks,
Ray

The first pic catches my eye more than the others.
Good to hear you're getting close to applying paint!0 -
I like the darker color on the bottom (pic #2)

I like the last one myself.

Last one for me too. If I did the lower dark color I would not extend it to the front part of the fenders. JMHO0

Ray, What program did you use to change paint schemes on the computer? I would have given anything to have been able to do that when picking out my 36 Terraplane colors. You just can't tell what a car will look like when you hold up one of those Little paint chips. And I have very Little talent in knowing what colors will two tone well together.
I like the white with maroon top also.0 -
Number 2 works for me as well0
-
I like the last one... Also I would reccomend you buy new leaf springs... If you went to that extent to do that kind of resto ... Call Randi Mass... Great Springs ... Great Price.....0
-
Last one, Good luck!0

I like the last one also. The paint break on the front fender ahead of the wheel in the first 2 photos does not look right in my opinion.0
-
Yep, I definately agree. Paint break doesn't work.0

As always thank you all for comments and recommendations, I'm as confused more now than before, I'll ask my friend who has PPG computer program to make some changes, personally I don't have program that he uses for his painting contracting business. For paint code that is being mixed today I am using one gallon PPG DBU8378 FORD 9 A Wimbleton white (about 7 yars ago I used same on one of my earlier '53 Hornet's restorations, which Art in New York now owns-see attached) and one gallon PPG DBU90927 Rally Red P26 more which has a tint of pearl, two gallons DRR1170 reducer and one gallon DC3000 clear with one quart DCH3083 activator, besides 3M gold assorted grit paper & disks. I am sure Randy Mass does a great job with leaf springs, however springs on the car I purchased from Mike in WA. were in good shape, no sags, etc and will not require much attention, if they do I certainly will call Randy. Original color of my coupe was olive green, I hope I answeerd all questions? Can't wait tilll Saturday to re-visit and help on car.
Thanks again,

Absolutely. If you go two tone, the front part of the fenders, in front of the wheel opening should be the same as the top color. All versions look great. Dark on the bottom has a slight edge for me.0 -
. . . ix nay on the olive green, though.0

Hi everyone,
I requested my friend to re-work two tone pictures which he immediately did and I really like the change and now have narrowed my choice down to two combinations; see attached...I hope this Saturday is a productive and we finish undercarriage work, if so I'll post some progress pictures. I am still interested in buying a set of stainless steel rain shields for my coupe...Does anyone have prorper tolerance spec for leaf springs rebuilding , I talked to Kaylene at K-Gap and already ordered supporting spring bushings.
Thanks,

Much better with the lower color not extending to front of fender. I like #1 above. Going to be a sharp looking Hudson. Good luck0

I like the last picture, but either combo will look sharp.
Keep us posted.

All Black - goes with any interior color0

And it looks like you have a Jaguar for every other day of the month ?0
-
I vote the last picture there. But, if it were mine,....black! And make it low gloss. All my Hudsons are either black or rust colored.:) .....Just my opinion.:D0

About three years ago, I purchased from fine southern gentleman and car builder Rudy Bennett, a black '53 Hornet sedan; called Black Beauty (see attached) and sorry I ever sold that car. This is my first coupe and want a little change, building this car the best it could be, hopefully will be on the road first quarterr of 2009.

I or anyone should be so lucky, on second thought it would be better to have showroom full of Hudsons.

Update on yesterday's Mesquite trip and restoration, not much to report; experienced a little problem with blaster therefore couldn't do much, however you can see / black hand scrap over 56 years of undercoating and road tar and gray from blasting while car is on rotisserie. Was real pleased after seeing car almost upside down very little to cut / weld rust repairs necessary on undercarriage. Allen did prepare both inside and outside fenders, hood and trunk and presently working on rocker panels, if all goes well everything will be in primer before my next visit I have attached some pictures.0
