There Were No 232 Headsd Used In 56 The 51 To 54 232 Heads Will Fit A 308. They Were Used On All 7x Engines. In 56 Thewasp Used A Jet 202 Engine, Which Is Completely Different And Will Not Fit A 308 Bill Albright0

Thanks bill I thought it was not right. The engine is in a 56 but it also has twin h on it? I don't think this adds up? Also has a dual range in it?0

Check the motor # If it is on the pass side on front of block by the manifold it is before 55 If on the driver side on top of block it is a 55or 56 engine. The 56 308 did have twin h. They also had Hydromatic. The 56 v8 had the Packard engine and trans. Think thats right0

Yes its a 56 engine. I did not know if the 232 was offered in 56? I figure it must be a 308 with a 232 head on it. Kind of gets my juices flowing with wonder whats in side???? The twin-h manifold is in good shape..
Does anyone know if the 56 was 6 or 12 volt?0 -
Yes The 56 Had The 308 With Or Without Twin H, And A 262 Or 232 Head Would Bolt Right On Bill A.0

Hudson was 12 volt in '56-'57.0 -
Well I got the 232 head. Unfortunatly it's attached to a 56 Hornet that I have to drag home. Also got another complete engine with twin-H. Funny what comes up in auctions sometimes. I'll try to post some pics if anybody cares to see them.
Yeah Me!!!!!0 -
Sure, post pics. Might be a 7x motor, might not. It is my understanding that a lot of folks used to swap out the 308 heads for the high compression 232. Only way to find out if it's a 7X is to remove the head.0

Sounds like the story Elma Marks told about Merrit coming home all aglo. Told her he finally found, and bought, an Ooogah horn he'd been looking for.
Said the only problem was it was attached to an Essex. LOL

Yeah well the hits just keep on rollin. The engine that I scored is a marine engine with the water exhaust and intake manifolds. It says stoker marine on the side of the exhaust manifold. The intake is also alittle strange.
Anybody know a thing about this setup?? The engine is ford blue? Go figure.
Still have to go get the car with the 232 headed 308 in it. Wonder what it has in store for me?0 -
I could be wrong, but I think all the Nash body large six engines came with twin H. I don't think a standard 2bbl maniflod would fit . I think I saw one in a junk yard many years ago with a chunk cut out the spring tower to clear a single carb setup. Someone with more experience with the Hashes will set me straight if I'm off base here.0

Have Worked On Several With Single Wdg Carb. No Probllem With Clearance, Bill Albright0

Got the car(56 hornet) back to the yard and it has some good and bad. The block is cracked at the top next to the head about 3/4 of the way from the front of the motor. Same spot on most I've seen that are cracked. It does have the double crank pully though. 232 steel head and 12 volt generator and dist. The motor oil looks good and the tranny fluid smells like new. No carbs but the linkage is all there.
I would guess the cracked block was the reason for the scrap yard treatment.
My question is does this motor have the hydralic lifters and are they any good in the Hudson engine? The number on the raised pad on the driver side says F3627.
Still can't get over the ugly of the body style but it does have some good stuff in her still.
One more thing is the tranny in this also a dual range hydro? Like the 54 Hudsons.
Thanks guys
