54 Hornet Special Question

Doug - All of the information I have ever seen groups "Special" serial numbers with the 7D Hornet series. Hudson apparantly did not beleive in breaking down the production numbers by model series, or even sedan, club coupe, Hollywood hardtop, 2dr. Sedan (brougham) or Convertable. I guess they did not forsee us Hudson Nuts of the twenty-first century having a desire for this kind of information.

Thanks Jerry. I was afraid of that although it is no big deal. Do the numbers on the block tell me anything about the production date, etc?

I've got lists of months of production by serial number. I you'd like, send me your serial number by e-mail, and I'll let you know what month your car was manufactured.

From a list I have on file, the beginning serial numbers for each series 1954:
1D Jet 1269062
1D Jet Family Sedan 1296953
2D Super Jet 2269060
3D Jetliner 3269070
4D Wasp 4269069
5D Super Wasp 5269075
6D Hornet Special 6295720
7D Hornet 7269066
This is from a list given to me by "Doc" Dougherty many years ago.

In my wanderings thru the maze of Hudson serial numbers I found many variations in different publications. Even in Hudson books serial numbers varied.
For example, for many years I thought serial numbers (from 1951 thru 1954) started at 101, ie, 7C-101 (1953 Hornet). Other listings began to show up showing that serial numbers for this period actually continued from year to year, ie 1951 beginning at -101 for all models, 1952 132916 to 202916, 1953 202917 to 269059 and 1954 starting at 269060. These numbers came from a 1948-1954 Monthly Model Year Production List, which showed 148-1951 serial numbers beginning each year with -101. The 1951 year is shown as ending at 132915, thus 1952 beginning at 132916.
This is finally what we went with. In most cases with serial numbers I'm sure I have errors in my research because I finally, to keep from going totally insane, adopted whatever numbers I could find the most of, ie, if I could find 2 or 3 sources out of 4 or 5 that agreed I went with that. Not the most scientific, but it's the only way I could figure to do it.

The serial number indicates your car was built in September of 1954.
