The Remains of Detroit

Here's a Time magazine photo essay on the state of Detroit and the auto industry for whatever interest it may have to you. Slightly off topic, I admit, but with the auto industry bail-out or 'rescue' business, certainly timely. I submit this without comment or blame, just a feeling of sadness.

Seeing how long some of those buildings have been vacant is a good reminder that the current situation took years to evolve and will take years to remediate. There's a lot of history there and a lot of history in the making.

Hard to believe that is in America. Ross Perot said when nafta was signed in. "Get ready for the big sucking sound it's our jobs going overseas" I guess he was not so goofy after all?

Want a good American job??? Move to Mexico. Then you, like the illegals here, can send money home to America.

And there's even a govm't agency or two that shovel money into foreign countries to train their people to take our jobs, so you won't have to pay much for training.

Oh, did I mention you'll probably have to become a Mexican citizen - from what I've heard they don't allow illegals in their country, unless it's a rich Norte Ameicano brining lots of money when he moves down there to take advantage of cheaper living.

Note in the end of the article the writers said despite people saying Detroit is too dangerous don't go there.... the authors said people there were reallly nice to them when they were working on it. Don't believe the hype.... just use some common sense and be there in 2009. Here's one tip though a friend of mine who lives in that area said to avoid Opidyke Rd. (sp?)
  • Went to Detroit two years ago, visited Ypsilanti mueseum, a gotta see place. Just make sure you check the hours there open. Even got lost one night in the so called bad part of town. never had a problem. Had a great time. Will go back . Like Aaron said , just use some common sense. I sure wish my car would be ready for the Great meet, but I'll never make it.
