1953 Hudson Super Jet production

I'm researching the 1953 Hudson Super Jet and found out only 10,000 of these Hudson Super Jets were produced in 1953. If anyone disagrees with that number, please let me know. That would make the 1953 Hudson Super Jet rare.



I also found out the 1953 Super Jet and the Jets were prone to rusting out a bit faster than other cars of the same class. So I'm thinking, it only 10K were made and they rust out easy, there probably aren't that many of these 1953 Super Jets around today.



Is there an expert out there on this car? I would like to hear

    Ozoneblue - I am the H-E-T tech advisor and the registery person for 1953 & 1954 Hudson Jets. Total production for 1953 including Jets & Super Jets was 21,143 cars. Production for all Jet models in 1954 was 14,224 cars. According to my registry records, I have a total of 102 1953 Super Jets to date, and receive more information at least weekly from other members of the H-E-T.     I'm not sure that I'd categorize a production of 10,000 or so as rare, but you won't see 5 of them lined up at your local cruise in. At the Laughlin meet last month we had 4 Jets show up, which is the most I've seen together. They're reliable, fun and easy to drive, and it'll give you something to take to Hudson meets!

    1953 Jet 2 doors ARE rare. Jerry, how many '53 Jet two doors are in the registry?

    Matt - I have eleven 2C's, 21 1D's, 19 2D's, 9 3D's & 1 3D Conv. The big problem is still, approximately 45% of club members do not report the serial numbers of their cars.

    Before anyone questions why Jerry mentions the 3D's in '53, remember that the '54 production ran began in August of '53. I have 1951 thru 1954 Hudson Serial Numbers charted out on my site, including total production versus total shipments and even new car registrations which give an idea of what was actually sold on the lots.

    According to the Automotive News (1968) Almanac there were 76,797 Hudson products registered in the United States in 1953.



    The Hudson, et al, registration list from 1922-1957, along with new truck registrations 1929-1948 is in my General Information Handbook on page iv of the General Notes Section - and I can email a copy to anyone interested.

    You make a good point. I was one of those 45% in that I had only reported one serial number of three cars that I own. As of a few weeks ago, the club now has all three. It helps everyone involved to have as many serial numbers / cars accounted for as possible.
