Just thought y'all might be interested: I got two of my carbs back from Walt Mordenti, who did an outstanding job rebuilding these for me. I think I'm going to put these on Doc, our sedan in preparation for Pontiac. In a couple months (after we recover from Christmas), I'm going to send him my other pair to him for the convertible. Anyone interested can reach Walt at: waltmordenti@aol.com or look him up in the roster.

Sorry about the size . . . still haven't got the hang of re-sizing pics for this forum. Anyone want a bigger pic, just e-mail me or PM me and I'll send you a HUGE picture. :)

Is it possible for carbs to look too good? Those look great! I usually like to rebuild my own, but mine never look that nice. Walt does nice work.

Yes, he does. When I get 'em installed, I'll make sure I post how they perform, as well. I thought about re-building them myself, but don't have the proper tooling to do it right, and after seeing some of Walt's work while in CA, and meeting the man, I decided he was the guy for the job. Couldn't have made a better decision.

If the person rebuilding them does not have all the correct tools, the job is not done right. After they are installed, then they have to be set up, balance both carbs with a UNI-SYN, then adjust the rods in the cross shaft with the bell crank locked in position, then set the idle air screws to the highest reading which should be 18 to 21 inches of mercury, or lower depending on the condition of your engine. Choke setting has to be set by the car owner for the climate in his area. I set all my rebuilds, front carb, one (1) lean and rear, two (2) lean. Walt.
  • WOW they look great glad that i have sent my Twin-H carbs to Walt for rebuilt. Nice waiting for.

Looks like Walt can get the acid dip that makes them that gold color again. I have been told by a couple of local carb shops that you can't get it anymore. Something to do with it being too hazardous. I wanted to get some of it for my carb rebuilds. The only thing I can't do is rebushing the shafts. If I come across one that needs rebushing, I take that part of the carb to a local shop then do the rest myself.

Looks like bronze renew paint from eastwood. About 8 dollars a can. Use it on all my rebuilds.

That would be my guess as well - I aslo bought some of the Eastwood carb paint, silver and gold.

    Q. I have 4 WA-1 carbs for Twin-H setups and all four have silver bodies - what was the original carb(s) color? Did they change year to year?

Not positive, but you are probably right, it was my impression as well. The carbs are certainly "paint-coated".

Not to worry this is widely used by rebuilders - or similar products...

Carb Renew Bronze Aerosol 5 oz
    spacer01.gif
Carb Renew - Restore the OEM look found on just about any carburetor. Carb Renew is a translucent acrylic enamel that is resistant to fuel and most additives. (Please read and follow label instructions carefully.) While your carburetor is apart and all jets are removed, simply spray Carb Renew on the exterior of the thoroughly cleaned bowl cover and main body. Produces a natural 3-8% gloss. Carb Renew is supplied in a 5 oz. net wt. aerosol can. Enough to cover 2 sq.ft. PRE Painting Prep (10041Z) can be used to clean the carburetor before coating.

Oh, no worries. I'm familiar with the product. My comment wasn't meant to be a disappointment of any kind. Sorry it came across that way . . .
