232 to 262
Happy New Year everyone.
Q. I have a 232 and a 262 engines. The 232 is a 54 with the relief in the block around the valves and was running, although smokily, when I took it out of my wasp.
Taper is about .008 and all of the wear is just below the ridge.
I'm thinking of rebuilding it into a 262 and using the parts from my 262 do do so.
I know I need to use the 262 crankshaft but do I also need to use the connecting rods?
Am I correct in assuming the pistons are the same?
thanks
Jim

Rods are the same as long as you don't mix them up because of balance problems. Early rods were a bit heavier due to being built for rifle drilling.Drilling was dropped later and the forging was lightened. I don't know about all the other parts. I would do a quick deck to piston measurement with that setup. There are some differences in pin location, but I'm sure Randy Maas or others will comment.0

Thanks Dave,
I should mention that the 262 is from a 53 superwasp. So its a later year.0 -
The difference in stroke between a 232 and 262 was compensated for by differing pin height in the pistons, so you must use 262 pistons and crank. Pin height from centre to top in 232 is 2.312", and in a 262 2.062"
