Hudson Confused With A Rat Rod

I thought some of you might get a kick out of this as there has been a couple rat rod threads out there. I am restoring a 52 Hornet Coupe that I had found in a farmer's pasture up in Idaho. It had been sitting there since 1974. The farmer knew of a retired mechanic HET club member that lived 50 miles down the road and I contacted him to restore the car mechanically. He worked on the car as he worked on other projects and completely went thru the brake system, restored fuel tank and lines, went thru the 3 speed and overdrive, new radiator, front end rebuilt, new shocks, etc. I then bought a freshly rebuilt factory 7x from John Sonnen in Denver and had that installed. The car was mechanically completed a few months ago and I had it shipped here in So Cal. I then had the rims power coated (red) and put new WWW Coker tires on it. The car now runs and drives as new and very quick.

The funny part of this story is that now that 99% of the mechanics are done but the car looks like Sanford and Son. All side windows are still broken out or cracked, both front floor boards are rusted thru with holes the size of a laptop computer, the original interior is tattered and in shambles, head liner hanging down, the exterior of the car is extremely faded / surface rust, dent bumpers, broken out tail lights- you get the picture. I took the car to AAA to get it registered (successfully) and it cause quite a stir with the DMV clerks. A few thought it was meant to look that way. I've probably had five or six different people pull up next to me to and complement the car- one guy actually told me "Nice Rat Rod". I thanked him but quickly told him that the exterior and interior restoration hasn't been completed yet. Anyway, I guess my point is that alot of people love the looks of these cars no matter what shape they are in. Get out and drive them!

  • Love to see some Pics!
  • Unfortunately all my car pics are too large a file and I don't have photo shop software to reduce their size. I'll see if I can get it done.
  • NHP I just downloaded a program called Fast Image Resizer a shareware product, it works good. My computer scanned it and its virus free.
  • Let's see if this works...
  • Jim,

That program works great- thank you! Here is a pic of the 7X engine. I haven't put on the Twin- H aircleaners yet and the wireharness will be replaced...
  • While I 'm at it- My 51 Coupe...
  • And my 48 Commodore 6 Sedan (bought from original owners estate)
  • Nice, all three.

Thanks, Niels. It's always good to see them again. Now you'll be able to post pictures from now on! That's super! I'm gonna try out that program, 'cause it usually takes me 10 or 12 minutes of fiddlin' with the size of my pics to be able to post them here and I usually just don't have the time or want to mess with it.
