1/4 window Channeling on Hollywoods- Help
I need help on the channeling for the 1/4 window on Hollywoods. I have channeling that I have sold for the 1/4 window. I have heard that the felt in the channeling is to thick for the window to slide. Has any one had this problem and how did you correct this problem??? Thanks Victor Z

Hi Victor:
Yes it is some what tight. I have ran a like the back of a paintbrush to wedge it out so it was not as tight once installed.0 -
I took some measurements of the original quarter window channel and compared it to the channel that Victor sent me
both 3/4 outside
original 3/4 inch deep , new 1/2 inch deep
The original quarter window channel had about 13/16 cloth
glued on the outside and the rest was just metal that fit into body. on the inside the original channel had fuzzy glued on the top edge and just material the rest of the way around to the other side and another fuzzy at the top corner. I think if the cloth
was cut away enough that the new channel would fit in body.
But i don't know about the depth of the new channel if it would be deep enough. Cut the new material and glue it to the original
channel what do you think ? duncan0 -
Thanks Randy, how is the channeling holding up? Did the wedging take care of the problem? Duncan , please keep me updated on your fix to this problem. My supplier does not have any channeling that is 3/4 inch dept. I will keep looking with other supliers !0

Thanks Randy, Duncan and others for the replies on the 1/4 channel on the Hollywoods. I found out that "if" the original channel on the 1/4 widow is reuse able, you can glue a Velcro type felt to the original channel (Cleaned up and Painted). If the original is not reuse able , the channel I have sold, can be used by removing the felt and replacing with Velcro type felt. I now have this available. The channel that I sell is not the same depth, but will still work.0

Victor, hasn't this issue been discussed before?. I did restore a '53 Hdtp. in 2004 and had this very problem. I thought that I posted what I did to resolve it and it worked out perfect?. I felt as if it duplicated the original weatherstrip piece almost exactly and wasn't that hard to do?..0 -
I ended up using a piece from JC Whitney. It is 1/2 wide and 3/8th depth. The original is 3/8th by 3/8th. I was able to cut to length and put the piece in a vise so to make it fit inside the stainless channel. I have done this now on two converts and looks like the original did and works very well. The key was the depth on these pieces0

I guess that I'm confused about what part your asking about?. The pieces that I'm talking about are unique to hardtops?.0
