I located ten to fifteen Hudsons sitting in a pasture...

Wow.... Here is the real deal! A buddy of mine had told me about a farm that had a bunch of Hudsons sitting in the yard (sure, ya right). This farm is a few miles down the road from his parents summer home. This is in another Western state so I couldn't just go look at the cars for myself. Well I'm going to visit my brother in a couple of weeks (who lives in the same state as these cars) so I decided to call my buddy and ask if he knew how to get ahold of this guy with the Hudsons. He didn't know the guy but he gave me the number of a friend who lives in this small town. So.... I call this friend and he knows the owner of the Hudsons and has for 30 years or so. He gave me this person's name and number. I just spoke to this Hudson owner and he wants to sell these cars! I didn't get the whole inventory or how much but we're looking at a minimum of 10 to 15 stepdowns and a couple of super jets. I know that atleast 3 to 5 of them are 2 door coupe Hornets. He also mentioned 3-5 "parts cars". It gets better..... he says he also has a "Barn full" of parts. Rear ends, engines, chrome pieces, etc.

As far as the condition of the cars, I have not seen them yet. They have been sitting in a pasture. I think only one or two of them are running. Because of the climate in this particular state, I would believe they are all solid as a rock with minimum rust if any. I know he does not consider them parts cars. We'll see, as I'll be looking at the cars and barn inventory in less than two weeks.

If I am able to do so finantially, I plan to buy them all including the parts in the barn. My plan is to then resale most of the inventory. If I can't afford all of it, then I will ensure that someone from this forum or HET gets a chance at buying what what I can't.

If all goes well, I'm going to be looking to store these cars in So. Cal. Or if someone is interested in a business proposition for storage and selling the cars and inventory, then lets talk( only if you are serious). My e-mail is nptelcel@aol.com

This is the real deal and its going to happen.

Regardless of what happens, there will be many more stepdown Hudson parts available in 30 to 60 days. Niels

Bingo! Could use a Dana axle for my 49 Commodore
  • Is there a price parts list out there that would give me an idea of what this stuff is worth? I'm going to really need to have an idea on parts pricing in order to make an offer.

I'm going to call this guy today or tonight and see if he can give me a better idea of what parts he has in the barn and how much of it. I was too excited get the specifics. I'd also like to get more specific info on the models of the cars. From the quick notes I took last night he has these complete cars plus some:

'53 Super Jet, 53 Hornet 2 door coupe, 52 Hornet 2 door coupe, 50 Pacemaker Sedan,52 Super Wasp, two 52 Wasp sedans, a 53 Hornet w no engine or trans, not sure of the others. I know he is going to keep atleast one maybe two cars that I haven't mentioned. "Parts cars" were 52 Hornet, 52 Super Wasp and 53 Super Wasp.

As an interesting note, I asked him how he came about collecting all these cars and parts. He told me he had a Hudson in High School and sounds like he was quite the local hot rodder. He got all the cars and parts from a woman whose Husband used to be a Hudson dealer and collector. He said he had to buy "All of them" in order to get the car he wanted. What that "special" car that was, I don't know.

  • Niels, I'd be interested in a Jet only if it's a two-door, plus any parts that might be with it. I'm in OK.
  • Neils,

Please e-mail me, I'd be interested in possibly partnering on the whole lot or some arrangement.

HEThudfarm@nctc.com you know the drill - drop the HET off.

  • Howdy,

I thought I'd update everyone on this topic as I think it is interesting that this stuff is still out there. Add a 1951 Commodore 6 to the list of complete cars. Per the owner, there are three, one ton pick up loads worth of parts plus the three parts cars. There are some extra steering wheels, taillight assemblies, taillight lenses, front end stuff, headlight rims, a few hoods, a few engines, rear ends, A- frames and ??? There is some NOS stuff but don't know what yet. There are a couple different Hudson gentlemen that are interested in this venture and I plan to come to an arrangement with one of them shortly. Ultimately, I'd like to make the parts available on a website with pictures (e-bay like) for ease of sale and enter the 21st century. Niels

Did you say this place is in Southern Calif. ? I am near Long Beach if I can be of any help. If there is any 1929 Hudson parts I might be interested. Thanks Ron
  • Ron,

I'm in So.Cal and that is where I'd like to find a place to store them if possible. Thanks though! Niels
  • Niels: I'm looking for a 49 Commodore steering wheel in good condition. If there is one available, keep me in mind. Thanks--

  • Re your request about price lists and values: I bought some parts cars a few years ago because I needed a couple of parts for one of my cars. I had to buy all the cars (not Hudsons) but I figured I could part them out.

I listed an ad in a club magazine. After the few rare bits were sold, sales were slow. I found that people were not willing to pay me much for the used parts. Often it wasn't even worth my labor to remove the parts. I remember one old guy yelling at me on the phone "$40 is too much for manifolds!" The exhaust manifolds in question being a one year only item, very hard to find, which were a pain to remove from the car.

So I think I broke even on this scheme, if I don't count my labor. I got the parts I needed. I eventually hauled the remains to the crusher. Do it for fun but don't plan on making any money!

    Good Luck

I am also in SoCal and am interested in a Hornet two door with manual trans. It would be my first Hudson. I almost bought one out of Minnesota off this site about two months ago, but couldn't get there in time to look at it.

    Hi Steve,

Thanks for your insight. I certainly don't want to loose money and I'm not looking to get rich either. It is still too early to speculate since I haven't seen pictures of the cars, gotten a parts inventory (only three, one ton truck loads) or an inference on price. My Dad always told me, "there is no such thing as a free lunch" and "you get what you pay for". Personally, I can't stand people who want something for nothing. I'm sure that the owner has an idea what he wants. Hopefully it will be a good deal. All I want is to get a decent deal and some value in my purchase by paying a reasonable price and be able to recoup my money plus alittle for my efforts. I honestly would love to see all these cars driving again. I really don't want to buy parts cars and deal with that B.S. I will buy solid, whole, complete old Hudsons that deserve to be tinkered with and put back on the road. If all these are what I consider parts cars (total rust buckets), then I will pass the deal on to someone else. With that said, I have been told a couple times now that these are very solid and restorable. I bought a 1949 Dodge Coronet in this area on my last summer visit and it cleaned up nicely. It may be Christmas early this year or end up as just a little trip to see some cool old cars. I'm keeping my fingers crossed. Niels
  • I'd also be interested in Dana rear end.

    Jay
  • FYI- I only ended up buying two of his cars, 52, 53 Hornet coupes. The 53 is a real project but the 52 is a complete and original #4 car and hopefully will morph onto the roads by end of Summer. The other cars were too beat and uninteresting. Niels
  • there is a 2 door jet in jonesboro, arkansas for $750.00 if you are interested.

e-mail me and I'll send the pix that I have of it.

    bjharris@mynewroads.com
  • I'll call the guy tommorrow and ask if he would mind me posting his info. I don't think he will but I should ask first. He lives in Northern Idaho. He still owes me the title to the car so I need to bug him anyway. He still has ALOT of Hudson parts...... Niels
  • Good Niels,

If Idaho genetleman has stainless steel trim for '52 Hornet coupe passenger side door

and maybe even passenger side quarter (mine is repairable) panel I'd be interested.

    Thanks,

    Ray
  • I'm looking for some Jet stuff... especially a decent front bumper. Or seats if the fabric is still in okay shape.
