Supercharged Hudsons?

I happened to notice that Kaiser offered a McCulloch supercharged option in 1954 or so. Any of you guys see a period supercharger put on a 308 and if so, how did they perform? Seems like this was a pretty straight forward application to get some significant horsepower. I wonder if Hudson considered this as an option to compete in the HP wars?

  • You have obviously been asleep or something.

Ralph, aka PaceRacer50, has one on a 308 that has been running over a year.

I've had a McCulloch setup for a couple of years now. I'm bogged down in "Period Correctness", which I realize is an oxymoron for a modifier - but we all have our hangups. I have most of the arrangement figured out, just lacking a few hard to find parts.

From what I can tell, the Kaiser pressure box and carburetor would be a bolt on for the 2 barrel WGD manifold. The linkage connection is also similiar to the WGD. Pulley fixture on the front of the crank is another problem altogether. I'm not using the Kaiser carb/box, but it sure would be easy.

Ralph's results are encouraging. Pictures of his setup are in my photo gallery here on Classicar.

    Mark.
