Cool Poster
Someone stuck a poster on my front window at work from the California Highway Patrol showing all the different cars they've used since their beginnings. The first car they used was a 1929 Hudson Coupe, a good picture with two Highway Patrolmen standing with it. Has anyone else seen this poster? I don't even know where this one came from.

This says its a 29 Hudson but looks like 30-31 Hudson0 -
Definitely a 1930 Hudson 8 coupe. Not the best choice for speed, or acceleration, but most likely would catch the average speedster back in those days. The coupes had a rear end ratio of 4-7/11 standard, but if these were fitted with the optional rear end gears of 4-3/11 it would give it a theroetical top speed of around 85 m.p.h.0

Probably purchased in late 1929 so a 1930 model, this was the first year of the CHP. I'm guessing in those days there weren't a lot of pusuits. Then again in the early days the CHP were traffic safety officers, not law enforcement so I think they spent more time helping stranded motorist than they did enforcing the law, at least for the first few years. I know that they didn't get law enforcement status until the became part of the State Police in the late 1990's.

Hi Harry,
I haven't seen the poster, but I thought I saw your picture at the Yucaipa Post Office yesterday!

Nah, that warn't me, that guy looks just like me but he has shifty eyes. I'm much purtier than that guy.
