My grandfather sold Hudsons before WWII, and my father grew up down the street from a country Hudson dealer.0 -
I believe the H-E-T Club store has a booklet that lists Hudson-Essex Dealers from way back in the 20's thru to the last ones in the mid 50's. I know for a fact that H-E-T Director Sheldon Rody is working to update this information so that a revised listing can be provided by the Club Store in the future.

FYI
Upon opening a NOS Distruibutor Cap box I found an Invoice inside with the Hudson Triangle Logo from N.O. Smith Garage, apparently the Hudson Dealer at 945 Franklin St, Johnstown Pa. pre dated with 194_ but unable to read the actual year because Ink faded.. Incidently the new cap cost $1.00 at that time.0 -

The Building My Body Shop Is In Started Life As A Body Shop In 1937 In 1948 They Added A Show Room And Sold Hudsons Until 57 Then Sold Ramblers Into The Early 60's But There Was Already A Rambler Dealer 2 Miles Up The Road. They Went Back To Body Work And General Service Repair Until 1988. I Bought It In 1998 And In 1999 Bought My First Hudson For The Showroom. I Since Have Collected 8 More Hudsons And Alot Of Signs And Collectibles. I Have Some Pictures From The Late 40's As Well As Current Ones I Will Try And Post. The Dealer Was Kromrei Motors And Also Ecorse Motor Sales 3965 W Jefferson Ecorse Mi . Less Than 10 Miles South Of Downtown Detroit. The Building Looks Much Like The 1950 Complete With Offices Tile Floor And Built In Show Cases. We Also Had A Home Chapter Meet And Our Quest Was Harvey Kromrei Who Ran The Shop With His Brother Until 1988. Inthe Show Room Now Is 1951 Super Six Conv. With 73k Miles And 1955 Hudson Met With 20k Miles0

I had a '49 Hudson repaired there back in the sixties when I lived in the area. The one in Tacoma was a couple blcks above Pacific Ave around 9th. I do not remember the street name though.I have the name and address of the
Hudson dealer in Reno during the fifties, and a distance picture of the Hudson dealer in Carson City, but I do not know where they are. The one in Carson is now a restaurant and several antique stores . Keep up the good work. Arnie in Nevada0 -

Excellent Work on the Hudson Dealerships Photo Page. Additional Info on the Erie Pa Dealership is the name was Birkland Auto.
The Building was torn down and a new building erected a few years ago. I know a family whose father worked there afterwards when Yale & Towne Forklift. Their father owned a lot of Hudsons so I will inquire if they may have a picture of the Birkland Building.0 -
I have an old fadded and smudged box that contained a stepdown under seat heater. The lable on the box says it came from the "American Motors Parts Division. 800 Chester Pike, Sharon Hill, Pa." It was addressed to a dealer in Lehighton,Pa. The name is difficult to make out.. I may mangle it, so my apology up front..Dzusth & Kistler, RD #3 Lehighton, Pa. I assume that was a Hudson dealer.??

In the last months I have been going to libraries and looking up dealers in the city directories and phone books. So far in Indiana, Ohio Michigan and Illinois I have found 500 dealers not listed in the book
"Worldwide Hudson dealers" and I have submitted them to be in the next edition of the book
Please list any dealers here that you you konw of and I will include them in the work I am preparing

Sheldon, check your research. Here are the dealers in Kennebunk, ME 1915 into the 1950's
Started out as H. E. Lunge sometime in 1915. Dealership was on Main Street, building still stands today and used for water company storage. I have a newspaper ad from June 25th, 1915 announcing "We have taken the agency for Kennebunk and vicinity":
Sold out to Andrew Murphy sometime in the late 20's, early 30's - Murphy moved the dealership to the east side of town on Route (Maine) 35 (Summer Street). There were two buildings on the property - one was the showroom, the other was the garage. Both buildings still stand today - the garage is still a garage and the old showroom is partly storage and partly used for front end alignments. The garage part was recently renovated, and they actually kept it looking more or less original.
I have a picture of the place taken in the very early 1940's.

While looking thru a 1923 Automobile Blue Book (touring guide) Southeastern States edition I found the following Hudson dealers:
The Huckabee Auto Co., Albany, GA (No street address);
D. Wilbur Ranck Garage, 300-316 E. King Street, Lancaster, PA;
Midelburg Garage, 1016-1018 Lee Street, Charleston, WV;
Virginia Motor Co., 411-413 Jefferson St., Roanoke, VA;
Central Garage, Rocky Mount, VA (No Street Address - also sold Dodge Bros.);
Bacon Motor Co., Main Street, Greenville, TN (No Street Address - also sold Hupmobile);
When I get a chance I'll look thru a 1926 editon (Southeastern states) to see if there's any others advertising or if these are still listing their busiinesses.

I have a NOS metal dealer trunk badge that's from the Hudson dealer, Schreiber Sales of Lowell, Indiana. It was given to me by Mr Schreiber's son-in-law a few years ago. My first Hudson, a '53 Wasp sedan, was sold new from this dealer.0

Here's a picture of Gifford Motor Company, a Rambler and Hudson agency. The picture is from 1-31-1958. Puyallup Roller Rink was in the upper level of the building. Looks like there may be a couple used cars on the lot, perhaps traded in on a new 1958 Rambler. The building was destroyed by fire in 1965.

NOTE: The Red Ball Garage gained noteriety in the 1970's as being the starting place for at least one of the infamous Cannonball Runs - if you have not heard about those the idea was to get from New York City to Redondo Beach, CA, driving, as fast as you could. As I recall there were 4 of these "outlaw" road races - 1971, 1972, 1975 and 1979. The official timed record for one of these races is 32 hours and 51 minutes (about 87 mph), set in the final run by Dave Heinz and Dave Yarborough in a Jaguar XJS in 1979 - you got to know these guys were going a tad over the limit (at that time the national speed limit was that congressionally imposed insanity of 55 mph.)
I just thought I'd toss this in as a side bar because Hudson and Essex cars were involved in transcontinental speed runs. A bit over 5 days in 1916 from Frisco to NY (and 5 days back) was a loooong way from 32 hours, when you think about it.

This Hudson dealership supposedly opened in 1954 in Altoona, Pa. Seems to me that Hudsons may have come late to Altoona. But most things do! Fiores now sell Pontiac, Chrysler, VW, Buick, and GMC.[IMG]http://Hudson dealer in Altoona pa[/IMG]0

I don't know why I never thought to ask you, but do you have a listing for Guy's Auto Sales? My sedan still has the original dealer tag on the back of the car along with the word: "Hudson". It would have been a Mid-Atlantic dealer, probably in MD or perhaps PA, in all likelihood.0 -

Havne't come across Guy's Auto Sales yet. The Automobile tour guides became a little thin on car garage and dealers ads after around1930 - but I'll go thru the ones I have for that area in my later guide books.

Here's some photos of an unknown Hudson Essex Dealership in Chicago. I believe this building served as an auto row of sorts, also hosting a Cadillac Branch and Willys & Overland at some point.
Alfred Samuel Alschuler (1876-1940) was the architect for this building. It was constructed in 1923. It has been demolished.0
