Should there be a gasket on the radiator cap for a 1935 Terraplane? Or is the cooling systems for a 1935 Terraplane pressurized? If yes to either question, does anyone have a source for a radiator cap with a gasket.

hello tom, the cooling system, as it left the factory, was not pressurized. what style cap/radiator do you have? my '35 six has a brass threaded cap with a raised hex for a radiator cap wrench. the cap screws onto the same upper tank housing that has the water level float for the radiator. you don't happen to know what parts of the hood latches were originally chrome do you? regards, tp

Hello Tp, The cap is steel with two stubs on the edges of the cap very much like a modern cap. I bought a brass cap with a gasket from an add in the WTN but the neck on the cap that goes down into the radiator neck is larger than the original so it doesn't fit. The cap that is on the car now doesn't have a gasket. The car has been in my wifes family since her great uncle bought it new in 1935. I know it was in a front end accident in the early 1950's and repaired by my wifes grand father who had a business restoring cars in Penn Yann, NY. The radiator looks very new and may have been replaced or recored. It may not be a Hudson/Terraplane radiator. The car was also painted when grampa John fixed it in the 50's and it appears he painted over the hood hardware. The handles, latches and catch plates are all shedding the paint now and all appear to have been chromed originally. The spine that holds the hood halves together has paint on it as well and is shedding the paint also. It appears to have been chromed when new. My car is a model "G" or Special which was the least expensive model made. According to the procedure manual I have the "G" didn't have the level float in the radiator. It has only one tail light and the non regulator type charging system, just the simple cut out relay.
