I emailed the guy and asked if the price might be a misprint. He wrote back and said it blanketie-blank-blank was NOT a misprint. In one way, it's great that the value of our cars has come up so much.....but it's a double edged sword if you want to try to find a driver quality car at a reasonable price.

I haven't seen a driver quality car that didn't need major work yet for a reasonable price. It seems everyone thinks their car is worth top dollar. I guess I'm still living in the dark ages when it comes to used cars. Still I'm pretty sure I recognize a $2500 car masquerading as a $5000 car and a $4000 car masquerading as a $16,000 car. Anyone can ask what they want though and if someone is willing to pay the ticket that is what that car is worth, to someone. Of course convertibles will bring their own market with them but the every day drivers should be sold as such. Just my opinion and everyone is welcome to flame me if they disagree.

Neils, I think the problem is some people see a fully restored car like one Bill A turns out and think all Hudsons are worth that much. If I could afford a showroom quality car I would go see Bill and know I was getting $16,000 worth of car. Since I'm just looking for a driver I'll wait until the right one comes along at a price I can afford. Until then my 55 Hash will do just fine.

Dont know if its just the rocky mtn. area or more wide spread than that but around here - not that far from Colorado - seems many people think " any" old car is big bucks , the term -Ican take it California and sell it for alot of money is something you always hear . I called a lady that got some property here that had a bunch junk on it . She just knew she was sitting on a gold mine . there wasnt even demo derby quality stuff out there . only a scrap guy that could have it free would have been interested .0

Before you head west to jump on this one - I have an "all original" 50 c6 sedan with O.D. you can have it for 10k
and i'll have the radiator recored and change the oil for you and it even has about 30,000 less miles. heck i'll even deliver it. other than needing paint, chrome, interior, bodywork, weatherstipping and exhaust - its pretty much ready to go. :eek: oh it needs a battery too - so i'll even get you a new one. 0 -

I've got a lead on one that may or may not work out. I am waiting for more pic's. If as described, then will drive up to inspect it. I've also contacted Al Saffron and Jim Harmon and asked them to also keep an eye out. I've also called three HET members from the roster so far and and asked if they were interested in selling... all said no. I had already seen one of the those cars that I called on and he turned me down at 40K. It is a 52 Hornet Club Coupe w 3 spd O/D with excellent original interior and one repaint in original color.
I know I'll find one for a fair price as they pop up now and then. Regards, Niels0 -
agrees with 52 kahuna - the auction companies have convinced a lot of people to look at old cars as an "investment" ergo people have bought cars such as Duesenbergs who know nothing about them & probably can't spell the name.
As a result of that low priced sedans have had dual cowl phaeton bodies "created" & installed with auction co. trying to sell them to the unsophisticated as originals, resulting in law suits. This has also been done with several extant '33 T8 conv. which were either T6 conv. or a closed car to start with I won't mention which ones as might get in trouble, LOL).
They use sports stars, such as Reggie Jackson, entertainment people, Elvis, etc. to make one think a car owned by them worth more + use them as "shills" at auctions. (Notice all the controversy over the ex-Steve McQueen step-down conv.).

Nick,LOL- I always like to look at their face when I ask 'Where's the bag of cash?" what do you mean?. I say,well,for that much it would have to come with a big bag of Franklins and Grants. It used to be Hudson's were way underpriced for the cars you would see,but now,that is not so true. I still believe that the Hudson marque is still the best bang for your Buck$$$$. You can streetrod them but if you do a little homework/research,you can also put them back to original, with maybe a few mods,and drive them across the country with no problems and make a conversation when ever you stop for fuel or eats.0 -
You think that one is bad. This one is not running needs complete resto and the starting bid is 10K and it has a reserve. This one must be one of the rare Hudsons they made with solid gold engine blocks. LOL

So why does NADA or Gold Book price's say one thing, and the owners say another? I look at a Hudson coupe that Nada said it was worth around 14k in #1. The owner wanted 35k and it was about a #3 or #2. What is the guide line? Who would buy a car for 35k and it only books for 14k?

There are not enough Hudsons sold in the open market for the price guides to be accurate. There have been many threads on this subject before. Most Hudsons are sold via word of mouth and many are not advertised.
The guides are better for mainstream brand X cars in which many more examples are bought and sold.0
