Removing Flash Chrome
I was wondering if anyone has done this? I have a set of hupcaps to fit my C8 and I believe they are stainless plated with chrome. Looking at them they are plated in a flash chrome process, according to my trim restoration book. There is no nickle or copper plating just chrome over the stainless.
The trim book says I can soak the hupcaps in a solution of muratic acid to remove the chrome and then repair and buff the stainless.
Just wondering if anyone has tried this process and what were the results.
I'll probably give it a try once the weather warms up.

Howdy Pat,
Yes you can do that if you have the means to do it yourself. I usually take things to be de-plated to a chrome shop and let them mess with that stuff because they charge very little that work. And yes you can shine them up good afterward.
